... So I’m building my own, and using it for one of my clients too.

    That’s awesome man!
    😊

I remember a while back (years ago?), there was a thread here that a developer had started.
He was planning on releasing his template files and a tutorial/description of how he set one up. I think this was before 2.x was released.

I’m sure that now, with CI powering the back-end, it would be an even more powerful project manager.

After look around for a few months, we found that 5pm fit our needs quite well. Price is competitive and their site is very easy to use.

We are using Wrike, has anyone else considered it (http://www.wrike.com) too? We just love this software 😊 and recommend it to anyone who is working on many projects, and need to involve clients partially. File sharing, Gantt charts, personal task lists, and project breakdown – all these features are there. For those who is using Basecamp, there is an interesting discussion here: http://www.quora.com/How-does-Wrike-compare-to-Basecamp

I have used both http://basecamphq.com/  and activecolab and i must say basecamphq is better. Though they are both not perfect, and if you want something that fits you perfectlty you probably need to go opensource platform and have it customised. Something like http://www.project-open.org/ may work, but i recommend researching this further.

We used a few different things. Freshbooks, Project Bubble, Basecamp etc. But after awhile it got tiring being fragmented and not having the options to integrate billing with tasks, projects, milestones etc just got to be too much.

We switch to Active Collab with the corporate package.

It is an all in one solution. Billing, account management, project management, helpdesk, people roles and administration etc. it’s very granular on permissions and with a little work you can set a whole team up as a client and they can manage their side, employees, etc.

So far it’s the only self contained package I’ve found, but it integrates everything perfectly

I have tried a few including basecamp, but it’s pretty crap for large projects or more complex projects, you just end up with confusion and everyone posting files in a big mish mash. Really depends on your project needs, but I tried this project management tool recently. It has a free trial, and works well where you have parallel workflow management issues.

Sort of biased here, Pancake is built on CodeIgniter, self hosted and really reasonable.

It’s very themeable so you can make it look exactly like your brand and provide a uniform users experience to your clients. It has file delivery after payment to help keep you from getting ripped off.

    Just sayin 😉

    Hi There!

I would also like to suggest Basecamp for project management. Basecamp is a Web-based solution that offers the ability to easily collaborate and track progress via any Internet browser. Due to its ease of use and low pricing plans, it is popular amongst both small and mid-sized companies.

Springloops is top notch. Surprised no one else has recommended it. SVN/GIT with automatic FTP/SFTP deployments, ticket system, Wiki, time tracking, user roles with group management, webhook notifications….and it integrates with your beloved Basecamp if you want it to. What more can you ask for?

Been using it for about 3 years now. I don’t work on sites without it.

I also use base camp. It’s great. You should try for yourself.
