If Mediatemple is your host the following workaround has helped me.

    yourdomain.com:8080/your system file directory

They claim it is not a problem with PHP 5.2.17 and that it is an architecture problem with the grid service. They are keeping me updated on the status and I will post anything I learn.

The config fix sort of works. I can login but none of the menu buttons work other then the custom ones I’ve added nor do things like accessories function. Something is clearly wrong with the CSS as the rounded corners on many elements fail render though for the most part the backend appears to look mostly correct.

Hi, stubear. Without any sort of fixes, I can login if I use cookies only, but there are other issues as you mention. I no longer see a version line for instance. Can you compare what you see in the backend with this screen shot?

All this is well and good for fixing an existing site but how does this affect new sites being developed? I was going to start working on a site for a new client on a subdomain but if EE is having trouble on the GS then what affect will this have on a new install?

    Hi stubear,

I’m sorry about the problems that you are experiencing here but MediaTemple have said that it is actually a problem with the architecture on the Grid Servers and so I’m afraid this is out of our hands and not a problem with ExpressionEngine as such.

I’m sure they will find a solution soon but if not then the only other thing you could do is move hosts.

    Thanks,

    Mark

Thanks Mark. I’ve temporarily added the config variables to my config file and the rendering issued turned out to be from my not clearing out my cache. Luckily for me Safari has a decent preference pane for finding and removing specific cookies so I don’t have to nuke all my logins and stored information. Now to figure out how to install a new site and get all this working on a subdomain of the same GS account.

    Hello folks,

My name is Jerry, and am a senior tech support lead with Media Temple (the username says Matt, mods weren’t able to change it to be more generic).  We were just able to get this user approved to post, so I would like to update everyone regarding this issue.  I will also be checking back to this thread periodically for the day (~9:00PM PT) so I can answer your replies and questions.

The issue everyone is experiencing is related to a cluster root upgrade we performed 2 days ago.  This affected the available versions of PHP for users on (gs) Grid-Service Cluster.08.  After reviewing the available information, we have decided to revert this change, which should already be in progress or completed.

I would greatly appreciate it if anyone still affected by this, after the next 30 minutes or so, please open a support request in their AccountCenter with a description of the issue you are experiencing.  Also, please put “ATTN - Jerry - ExpressionEngine” in the subject so they will find me quickly.

I greatly apologize for these changes made without warning.  I want to see this fixed ASAP so everyone can return to their day-to-day work.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

PS - Please avoid placing any account specific data into public forums such as this.  You are free to PM this information if you wish, but all communication will need to go through the support request, as I may not be the one replying to you at a later date.

You are very welcome.  I haven’t seen a new post here since mine (and yours), so my hopes are that everything is going well.

I appear to be experiencing exactly these symptoms on Media Temple DV4 running PHP 5.3.5

To recap, logging in result in redirect back to login form intermittently.  When the control panel does load any operations invariable redirect back to login.
Occasionally I find in addition Javascript doesn’t seem to work as expected so rollover menus are off (sometimes with rounded corners not loaded).

Upgraded EE to latest version and continues to happen.

Is this likely the same issue or something else?

PS - These installations have previously worked with no problems…

It’s most likely due to something else, as the other issues arose from an issue we created on the (gs) Grid-Service. It could possibly have something to do with your version of PHP, which you may want to try switching. Let us know if the switch helps with the problem.

    Not keen on switching since:

    a) Server has many other PHP apps which are running perfectly fine.
    b) Server was previously running these apps fine with the same version of PHP (unless MT changed the version of PHP - which I think they don’t do once a DV is provisioned no?)

Completely understand. You are correct in that assumption. We don’t/shouldn’t be making any changes to the (dv). If we did, we would have had a global update on the tech floor. Can you think of anything you may have added/removed in the time everything was going well, to the time the issues started happening?
