Did anything ever happen here? EE is setting a group owner of _www locally and causing svn commit to fail.

Thanks for posting with a followup question!
They user that your local web server runs as is completely under your control. ExpressionEngine simply assigns ownership as the system PHP user.
Regardless of the owner, what permissions are being set? What OS are you running locally?

Hey Dan,
Local dev is mac - had to enable root user to chown. It really threw svn tho.
Once ownership changed, disconnected/re-connected to repository - ok.
