Hi Paul,
Was just wondering if it would be possible for you to get image resizing capabilities added to your server just to rule that out as being the issue here?
Thanks,
Mark

I’ve submitted a request to my client to see if we can get the resizing options added. I’ll report back when I know more.
Thanks for following up Mark.

Hi Paul,
No problems. I’m hoping that may have something to do with it. If not then I’ll ask the rest of the team about it as I’ve never had this problem before.
A couple more things for you to try also would be :
1 - If you change your file upload preferences to allow all files, does it behave any differently then?
2 - Does this only happen when using the File Manager? What happens if you try a File field in a Channel Entry?
Also are you on the very latest version of ExpressionEngine? If not then an upgrade would be advisable here just in case any bugs have been squashed that might be affecting this, and lastly, what kind of server is this site hosted on?
Thanks,
Mark

1 - No change. Also one of the first things I tried to remedy the issue.
2 - No. Issue persists whether uploading directly through File Manager or from Channel Entry.
After I hear back from the client regarding the server, an upgrade to 2.2.3 will be the next step. Current version is 2.2.1.
Server: Red Hat Linux.

Okay, once you’ve heard about if you can install the resizing capabilities on that server then if you can let us know if it’s still not working and we’ll see where to go from there.

Hi,
when I create an upload directory, expressionengine automatically creates a new directory called
“_thumbs” inside the folder, when I upload files.
I cant delete this folder nor the files within that folder via ftp (permission denied/I also cant change the permissions). I actually have to upload a php script that deletes the directory for me - not really elegant.
Anyone got a fix for this?

Hi Mark,
Quick note to confirm that the missing image resizing features from the GD library were causing the upload errors for the _thumb directory. Client IT staff reinstalled the GD library and all seems to be working as expected.
Greatly appreciate the tip!

@Paul
Glad that got it sorted for you. Thanks for letting us know.
@soundseller
This sounds like the permissions are being set incorrectly on those folders. You would need to check with your host to ensure that the correct owner / group is being set on those folders.
Thanks,
Mark

I know, but shouldn’t EE take care of that and set the permissions(chmod) after file/folder creation?
#25 / Sep 20, 2011 2:30pm
Hi soundseller,
Sorry when I said permissions I meant owner and group which is something you may need to check with your host.
Permissions are set by ExpressionEngine, yes but if the owner and group are not getting set correctly due to something going on with the server then it may well be that ExpressionEngine isn’t then allowed to do anything else with them.
You would need to contact your host about that though.
Thanks,
Mark
