    Hey guys,

I was wondering what would be the best and easiest to use code editor for CodeIgniter. I have Dreamweaver and Notepad++. But I want something that can suggest coding similar to Dreamweaver but more of a lightweight program like Notepad++. Oh and it needs to be free.

    Thanks.

Codelobster costs $99 in order to have the CodeIgniter plugin, so for Codeigniter purposes, it isn’t free…

PHP Designer 7 has a 21 day trial, then costs $39 or $99 depending on your usage.

Are there any good FREE IDE options out there besides Notepad++ with a plugin? My Notepad++ keeps crashing.

    Thanks

I vote for Emacs with the Twilight (TextMate) color theme. I am still hacking it together to actually support the hard tabs and other code styling issues automatically. I’ll get there eventually.

Netbeans IDE (http://www.netbeans.org) is a great free IDE. Just download for php purpose only. Although only supports for Symfony and Zend Framework, not yet CI but using it for PHP code in general is great. I like its highlighting most.

My recommendation would be NetBeans 7 as well.

It does detect helpers, extended classes etc. and if you must, you can include a netbeans file with all the core classes and the IntelliSence will know the phpdocs for those as well.

I work 50/50 with flash/php so Flashdevelop is a great fit for me.

It has pretty good php/html/css/js support in addition to flash/flex, and I like the way it does projects.

I have tried many of them but seriously if you have a fair big project go with Eclipse PDT its awesome… also there are ways to enable auto-complete in it!

If you are a Linux user, Geany is a small, lightweight and great IDE for C,Java, html, fortran,SQL,Ruby and of course, including PHP. Some basic features are :
    - Syntax highlighting
    - Code folding
    - Symbol name auto completion
    - Auto closing of html and xml tags
    - Call tips

I use it besides another great IDE, Netbeans.
