Social networking is such a fad.

    😉

What will replace it next year?

Gramps, fad = an intense and widely shared enthusiasm for something, esp. one that is short-lived and without basis in the object’s qualities.  While there are quite a few “short-lived” social networking platforms, the general trend is anything but.  check out the market valuation on some of these guys.  that aside, you can not ignore the numbers - Facebook alone has 750m subscribers.

May not be for everyone (today), but it is definitely not a fad.

...but it is definitely not a fad.

If I apply that definition, the online social networks in general appear individually ‘faddish’ (because ‘social networks’ have always been around) which means Facebook, too. Remember, MySpace was the big dawg among online social networks just a few years ago, and now they’re worth what? Almost nothing.

Facebook may have 750-million members. Not users. Already, with Google’s +, Facebook users are leaving by the millions to the ‘latest thing.’ That’s faddish behavior, too. As is the growing crop of second tier online social networks.

I predict Facebook will thrive, mature, then wither. Just like all the other fads.

And Zuckerburg is laughing all the way to the bank.

I think google has enough private information about me and I don’t want to give it more. I have there an account but I’m not gonna use it.

    Probably so.

Just like Michael Dell did when he said Apple should close down and give money back to shareholders.

    Things change. Including fads.

I’ve not used it yet but I’m looking forward to giving it a whirl.

Social Networking may or may not be a fad, but I think there’s a lot to be said for its practical uses for companies, charities and other organisations, many of which will not let it die so easily.

The entire EE community is on it, as far as I can see. And if you’re not on it, you will be soon… 😊

    Nuh uh!

Someone should put together a little list of people posting EE related info on G+. I just started following random EE names I recognized but a lot just post personal stuff I really don’t care about.

    Edit:

Or I guess that might be what sparks are for but they don’t seem that useful currently

I’ll admit I didn’t spend hours with it - but until there’s equivalent to a twitter hashtag I didn’t find it useful.  Plus I’m just in social media overload and looking to focus.  LinkedIn and Facebook are gone.  Down to just twitter and a couple of forums now.

I also find myself wasting time looking at twitter when I should be concentrating on a project.  My only fear is that I don’t want to miss information that may be revenant in the field so I take a look at google+ when I have free time.  Hopefully twitter will keep me in the loop for now.

I am on it, but there is not much activity, though I will not want all those who are facebook friends. Just some of them. I want to be more personal.

A big issue with me was updating the three main social sites. If you’re a Chrome user check out SGPlus for Chrome (http://bit.ly/q3Jm2Z). With SGPlus installed you can view your Facebook and Twitter feeds as well as post to them, all inside Google Plus. It really saves a lot of time. Plus it allows you to forgo looking at Facebook’s interface.
