The entire EE community is on it, as far as I can see. And if you’re not on it, you will be soon… 😊

Anyone passing out invites?
#7 / Jul 10, 2011 4:33pm
I don’t think you need an invite anymore, just a google account.

The link takes me to the front door but states “Google+ is in limited Field Trial.” So, evidently, invites are still the way to get in.

If you send me your e-mail, I can send you an invite.

I get the feel that it’s a lot like twitter. The fact that I can follow someone who may not follow me.
It seems awkward to not be able to post on someone’s wall though.

hoping google + will become the social network for people worth sharing/communication with, unlike FB which is “friending” a bunch of people you probably wouldnt hang out with if you saw them at a neighborhood pub

It appeals to geeks because it’s just an extension of their G account for webmaster tools, analytics, adsense etc and of course it still feels elitist, because even when it’s out of beta/limited signup, a lot of the recent Facebook adopters (like my Mum) won’t be joining just because they can or because it’s Google.
Right now, it’s hard to get a sense of how well it works in limited numbers, though they have done a good job integrating it everywhere along with the new top bar so it’s always there for all Google users (all of us) with notifications. It’ll increase GMail users and usage so a winner there, especially if they managed to integrate it so both are seamless. They have a good headstart on that one compared with Facebook.

I am sure Google + will be the same - but the 950 people you add as Friends but who you would not recognise on the street or you might cross the street to avoid will just go in “Acquaintances” and you get use some controls to quieten them down.

I joined a few days ago and have not had much chance to play around, but so far it is pretty impressive. I agree with most of the positive comments on this thread - nice alternative to FB
