    Just a side note:

I was talking with Travis over at Build with Structure and Chris BNI in regards to the fact that Structure and Safecracker do not update the Structure URL Field because it’s in a tab.

Anyway, Travis has said that with this announcment they will be supporting safecracker now sometime soon:

The news just keeps getting better.

Also, I was having an issue with VZ URL field type on the front-end using Safecracker. It wasn’t quite working the way it should and Eli from http://elivz.com stayed up late last night and came up with a quick fix which should be released sometime soon as well.

So a big thanks goes out to everyone mentioned!

We’re pretty stoked. Can’t wait to see where it goes from here.

For anyone not familiar with Safecracker, here is a shot of what you can do with it on the front end:

I left out the header and footer until the site is finished 😉

Absolutely fantastic. I was discussing with friends just the other day our hope that ExpressionEngine would set about strategically purchasing and integrating key addons.

Now all you need is a WYSIWYG editor and a kick-ass file and image management system.

All EE 2 license holders - any license type - can download SafeCracker.

This is such a smart, unexpected move. Thank you EllisLabs! I would have gladly paid Barrett Newton $50 a site from here on out, Safecracker has been the tipping point for me in being able to effectively use EE as the base of more “app-like” websites. With it, my clients will rarely ever need to see the EE control panel, unless they’re already tech-savvy. The control panel is your site, it’s nearly effortless compared to the learning curve on the control panel. And creating the forms for that experience is so much easier with Safecracker.

    Great news!

We’ll be releasing an unsupported version for 1.x that does much of the same, but goes by a different name on Devot-ee.

    Boom?

    Such great news!

Regarding the suggestions for making it more “native”, it’d be nice to ditch the current File fieldtype for the SafeCracker version since it is a little more robust. And, obviously, making SafeCracker a default module in all upcoming EE versions would be nice instead of an addon.

This may be a faux pas since it is a developer’s work (and awesome one at that), but I don’t know how I feel about the name SafeCracker since it is now going to be a native part of ExpressionEngine. It almost just needs to be called Stand Alone Entry Form again and just be a module like the Channel or Comment modules.

    Just a thought!

It is a great thought, and our plan is definitely for full integration.  But we did not want to make everyone wait for that to take place.  The SAEF has been broken for a long time now, and our primary goal was to get a working solution into the community’s hands.

Our plans include first bundling this with ExpressionEngine, and ultimately full, core integration.  I am not sure, right now, what that integration is going to look like - but it will not be a separately downloaded add-on.

This is really cool and well desired - thank you Chris and ELab.
Hint: now hire Brandon and port his plug-ins :D
