I’m running into a little issue. I’ve two channels (New Boats/Used Boats) which both use the same status/field/category groups and when I’m logged in as Super Admin I can switch boats between the two channels on the Options tab of the entry.

However when logged in as a group I’ve created called “Content Admin” the Channel drop-down appears empty with no options it. I’m wondering what the possible permissions setting would be to fix this as I haven’t found anything obvious while trawling through the preferences.

    Cheers

Hi, Ben. Make sure the member group in question has access to both channels.

Can you tell us which version/build of EE2.x you’re using? See EEWiki:// HowTo Determine My EE Version

The client definitely has access to the Channels as they’re already posting in both. Trouble is we urgently need to be able to move entries between the two.

    Ben,

I can replicate and I believe it is a bug. I filed a report on your behalf here.

Thanks John, at least it wasn’t something I was doing wrong! Am I being wishful in thinking a fix will make it into the next release or should I start considering other options for the client?

Hi, Ben. I don’t see a resolution here for the bug yet, so I don’t know if it is fixed yet. I’ll mention this to our testing team to see if they can assist. Thanks in advance for your patience.

I am experiencing this issue as well. Please also see the thread http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/185394/ for more info. The bug report listed in this thread shows this bug as being fixed in the latest 2.1.4 beta, but I am using the latest 2.1.4 beta and still having this issue.

This bug is very serious for me as it is affecting a large project I am currently developing. My customer needs to be able to change the channel on hundreds of product entries.

Also, the apparent workaround for this is:

“To work around this problem, you’d need to manually change the entries via a SQL command.”

but, I cannot find any details on the SQL needed to do this. Can someone please help.

    Hi undev,

The fact that this has apparently not been fixed in the beta has been communicated back to the dev team. Our apologies for that confusion. The use of an SQL query to update the channel_id for a series of entries is only really meant be used as a one-off and not something that you would allow your client to do on a regular basis. If you have not finished your site yet and the channel move does not need to done at the moment then I would recommend waiting until this issue is fixed.

    Cheers

    Hello Greg,

    Thanks for the reply.

The site is 99% complete and we are planning for the initial deploy this coming week. The channel move needs to be done in order for us to do this. This issue has brought this project to a stand still.

Sorry to be grim, but I need a solution for this right away or I’m going to have a very unhappy customer next week.

When you say wait for a fix, how long are we talking?

    Thanks.

    Hi undev,

I’m afraid that I have no idea and so I can’t give you an ETA. Is it the case that for you client all the entries in a particular channel need to be moved to one other or is it more complicated than that? If I can understand what is required then I can come up with a suitable query for you.

    Cheers

    Hi Greg,

The situation is that there is one channel that was being used to store product info. Due to a change in the scope of this project, it was decided that multiple channels be used instead. All the products are currently stored in one channel.

Here’s the breakdown after we added the new channels:

    - Total channels now are 11
    - Number of products to move from original channel is 830

The problem is that the entries are not just being moved from channel A to channel B. Out of the 830 products, 10% need to go to channel C, 20% need to go to channel D, 15% need to go to channel F, etc…

    Make sense?

Hi undev, I know this is far from an ideal solution but can you make the client a Super Admin to do the move as it seems to work then? This is what I had to do as I couldn’t wait three+ months for a fix.

EDIT: Sorry just noticed you said you can’t move them even if SuperAdmin, I know that’s the case in 2.1.4 but SuperAdmins could at least do it in 2.1.3 - your channels you’re moving between all have the exact same preferences and use the same field group right?

    undev,

I know you mentioned it in your other thread but just to make sure. Your channels all share the same field group?

What sort of products are we talking about there?
How is the scope changed that you need 11 channels?

On most product related sites, products live in one channel like you have and are then categorized or new channels created and then related back to a channel. This gives more flexibility

    Hi John,

Yes, same field group for all channels.

Ben, thank for the reply too.

Wasn’t working for me on 2.1.3 either. The customer is also using the same SuperAdmin account as I am, so that doesn’t seem to be related to this issue.

Regardless, I couldn’t afford to wait any longer, so I fixed it myself.

Thanks to the moderators for their assistance.
