It was brought to my attention today that the CAPTCHA images on my site’s member registration form (http://tupssofoa.org/index.php?/member/register/) are not always loading. I tried poking around for a fix, and when I couldn’t find one that seemed to fix the problem, I disabled the CAPTCHA images under EE’s Control Panel < Admin < Members and Groups < Membership Preferences. However, the CAPTCHAs are still showing up on the member registration page.

Any thoughts as to how I can either A) disable the CAPTCHA for good or B) fix the images so that they load all the time?

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

As I said, the problem seems to be occurring intermittently.

    tupssfoa,

I disabled the CAPTCHA images under EE’s Control Panel < Admin < Members and Groups < Membership Preferences. However, the CAPTCHAs are still showing up on the member registration page.

This should not be the case so let’s investigate that.
Unfortunately trying to troubleshoot something that happens intermittently is a hard one.
Give your images/captchas/ a good clear out and confirm the folder permissions are correct

Does this happen in all browsers?

Do you have anything in your config file referring to captchas?

You mention it was a report. Did you see it yourself happening?

I found an incorrect file path somewhere that was preventing me from turning the CAPTCHAs on and off, so that is now working properly again.

However, when the CAPTCHAs are turned on, the images are still not showing up. I am now witnessing it myself. The problem only seems to occur on PCs when using IE or Google Chrome. Looks okay in Firefox on PCs. I cannot replicate the problem on my Mac.

I checked the folder permissions for the images/captchas folder. It was set to 775 so I changed it to 777. However, this still hasn’t fixed the problem. Any other thoughts?

tupssfoa - Can you tell us which version/build of EE1.x you’re using? See EEWiki:// HowTo Determine My EE Version

I see the CAPTCHA using Windows 7 and IE9.

Which IE browser are you having the issue with? IE9 is OK with my limited testing.

One of my co-workers will take a look with IE8, but it may not be until tomorrow.

    redfred,

I’m sorry you are having this issue, let’s see if we can get this sorted out. We’ll need a few more specifics about your particular set up. What version of ExpressionEngine are you using? Is your issue intermittent like outlined above? Particular to Internet Explorer?

    Cheers,

    Hi redfred,

Let us know what you find out. We’ll be here.

@tupssfoa Are you all set now? I can see your registration form fine and the CAPTCHA images load up every time for me. I refreshed around 20 times and they all came up first time. Just wanted to see if you’re set now?

    Thanks,

    Mark

seems like it’s IE but not sure which versions, the client says his clients get even more frustrated when he asks them…

Interested to find out if you got this solved tupssfoa?
