Sometimes it happens that you would rather would go to bed and sleep than write code. But there are deadlines, and you know you have to do the job. How do you fight agaisnt desire to sleep?

I know someone use energy drinks like red bull, others coffee, but I am not fan of these. I don’t even know how it feels after drink red bull because I have never used it.
Do you know any other methods?

Oh, the loud music makes me awake, but also it makes harder to concentrate on coding, but still better than sleep and not code at all 😊

What’s wrong with coffee? I know it doesn’t taste too good (IMHO), but it’s not ilegal or does a lot of damage to your health.

Also, going to the bathroom and wetting my face helps a lot.

Coffee is not that good for you health as I know. If rarely, then it will not do damage but I see that people get addicted(don’t know how to say) to coffee and they cannot start to work without drinking cup of coffee.

Addicted? Nah! I drink 10-15 cups of coffee a day and I’m not addicted at all! 😊
To answer the question, going for a smoke(yeah, yeah.. bad for my health) outside atleast for me gets my thoughts out from coding for 5 minutes and I can then code hour or two again. And at this time of year atleast in Finland its refreshing as temperature is freezing(-22 celsius now) :D

The desire of falling asleep is usually averted by your girlfriend or wife asking you when you are coming to bed every 5 minutes. If you have a girlfriend or wife that is.

I don’t have a girlfriend, but I imagine how it is annoying when someone says to you go to bed 😊 but I myself have no problems go to bed, I like sleeping, so if I know I’ll have to get up early, I go to bed early.

Same here. I happen to live in Finland, too. Oh and, don’t drink beer…it makes you sleep..a lot.

Have you tried being one day without coffee and work and not fall aslleep at the same time? 😊
I guess it is good idea to go outside even if you don’t smoke. It could be even better to find something to do in those five minutes.

One day without coffee.. hmm. I’ll try that and report what happened to this thread 😊 This day is a lost cause though because I’m now drinking my third cup 😉

Putting your head to the snow could be a good idea instead of smoking. Refreshing too! 😊

    I don’t have this problem.

When I code, I have to remind myself to stop and sleep, the focus on the issue at hand keeps me awake…

Usually doze… then my head hits desk and I’m wide awake again. (Although not sure if this is healthy either)

Haha I can confirm that this is the ultimate solution.
