Hi,

Installed the Dutch language pack into my EE 1.6.9 site. Changed the Default language and Default XML language to Dutch in the System Preferences. Under Localization preferences I have changed the Default Time Formatting to Europe.

Whenever I render date or time variables on my site whether directly or using Solspace Calendar they are still shown in the English language. What am I doing wrong here?

Have you checked wether your individual member account Localization preferences are also set to Dutch?

I’m not talking about members in this case, but site visitors viewing the calendar or date and time related variables.

What date format are you using in your templates then?

{date format="%j %F %Y"}

Something like that should just read as a Dutch date like: 7 September 2010

I Haven’t used Solspace’s Calendar before, but is it possible they use different language files to translate months and such?

If I use the regular date and time format in any template like the one you used above I’m getting the English date and not the Dutch one. It seems that it has nothing to do with Solspace calendar as they are using EE’s language settings/files.

That’s why I was testing it out with a variable in a regular EE template (so without the use of the calendar)

Then it’s probably a translation issue, are you sure your lang pack is in the right directory?

Are you using EE 1 or EE 2? They recently changed language file names in EE 2 (don’t know about EE 1), so check if your Dutch language file names are identical to your English language file names.

In EE 2 they just recently changed it from lang.admin.php to admin_lang.php etc etc

Using EE 1.6.9. I’m getting the Dutch language when I enter the control panel of the site . So the language file seems to be OK. It just relates to the date and time variables.

The only thing I can think of now, is to put your dutch language files in the translations folder, and use the systems translation tool to see wether all dates are translated correctly.

Are you sure visitors to your site who are not logged in are, in fact, shown the Dutch version? Have you made Dutch the site’s default?

The issue is still unsolved. I’ve checked from various systems outside the network but all are getting the English date format. Members though, are getting the correct Dutch language in the CP.

Both Default language and XML language are set to Dutch, Character set UTF-8. Dutch language file properly installed.

Nope. All parts of the site where I use a date variable, the EE one or the one pulled from Solspace Calendar, are entirely in English.

The language packs are for the control panel specifically. The translations will not carry forward to your front-end templates.

You will need to use a plugin or similar for this functionality
