Site Not Showing Up Correctly

I am working on a clients website. I have an exact copy of the files/db.

I edited the config file to use the local database, however, when I browse to the index page, all I see is:

    - A few links (home, about, archives, contact) in a list
    - About “Quote Meon an estimate…” Lorem Ipsum
    - A Calendar
    - A Search bar
    - Categories (blank)
    - Monthly Archives
    - Most recent entries (blank)
    - Syndicate (atom, rss 2.0)
    - Site Statistics

I am assuming this is a “default” page of some sort.

How can I change this to show the clients website?

Welcome to the ExpressionEngine forums, grilldan.

What you’re seeing is the site template for EE1.6.x. You would have needed to create a new template group with different things in it, or have edited the site template group.

Did you do either of these?

The only file I edited was the config file, to use the local database. Other than that, it is an exact copy of the files from their server.

Did you also copy over the your local install with their database?

    Here is what I did:

    1) Copied files from their server to my server
    2) Did a dump on their database, imported it into mine
    3) Changed config to use local db
    4) Opened a browser and navigated to the index.php page

Which brings us up to now.

Can you give us a link to the site? Be sure to take a look at this article, too.

I can’t give a link to the site, because the error is on my local testing server. I’ve tried a new copy of the files/db and the same thing happens… Could it be a permissions error?

*edit* Doesn’t seem to be a permissions error : /

Can you post a screen shot, at least? It’s a bit difficult to troubleshoot issues we can’t see for ourselves.

    Understandable.

Double check your .css file; try to bring it up in the browser directly.

That could be what the issue is. It is trying to @import directly from their website, instead of locally. How could I change this?

On their website, it looks like:

    <link href="/css/default.css" type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" />

On my local server, it looks like:

    <link rel='stylesheet' type='text/css' media='all' href='http://theirwebsite.com/index.php?css=site/site_css' />
    <style type='text/css' media='screen'>@import "http://theirwebsite.com/index.php?css=site/site_css";</style>

It almost looks like their website is using a different theme than the local version I have, but I have exact copies of the files/db, so it must be something on my end.

Does the CSS load when you bring it up directly in the browser? That’s the real question.

No. Nothing loads, except that default page.

I can navigate to the admin login page (also no css), but once I enter my login info, it goes to a completely blank page.

Does the same thing happen for the control panel, or does it only affect the front page?

It happens on every page. I can’t get to the control panel, I can get to the login page (no styles), but once I login, I am taken to a blank page.
