Can we also have the 2.0 beta forum open to public before purchasing 2.0?
It would be nice to see 1st impressions of beta users.
    Thanks!

The beta forums will remain private.

V excited about EE2 RC. Thanks for the FAQ.

    I have a rhetorical question…

Who decided that orange links in the FAQ on an almost tonally identical mid-grey was a good idea? 😉

...Also there would be multilanguage support with EE 2.0? Till now I m doing multilanguage sites using this method from the wiki…

I’m also interested in this as I am pulling my hair out trying to bet a multi language search to work. If there is going to be any better support in 2.0 I’ll try and get my client to wait a few weeks.

Are there improvements to EE’s search capabilities?

In EE 1.6.8 search is very poorly implemented, with little or no customisation possible and the results of the engine are simply below par. If you want to offer good search, you’re stuck with something complicated like Sphinx or with Google and neither are an option to people like myself.

Will EE 2.0 have better search?

    Hey guys,

Remember, at this point we’re not releasing feature information:

Though please understand that we will not be posting a feature list prior to release and its unlikely we’ll go into detail about how a particular new feature/improvement works. You’ll have to wait another 14 days for the “how does X work” type of answers.

    Thank you for understanding.

    Awwww, that sucks.

    But I understand.

    Thanks.

Will EE 2.0 be less restrictive should I decide to run a ‘Hosted Weblogging Service’. It has been the case for EE 1.x and below License Agreement Statement clearly states it.
    From 1.x License Agreement Statement:
    “RESTRICTIONS
Unless you have been granted prior, written consent from EllisLab, Inc., you may not:

    * Use the Software as the basis of a hosted weblogging service, or to provide hosting services to others.

Hi, Bishnu - there has been a license review and there will be licenses changes, but the details on that are not yet finalized.

I understand you don’t want to go into detail with regards to “how a new/improved feature works”.

However, and sorry if this sounds like I’m not joining the “hurray” crowd here (because deep inside, I am 😉), I don’t understand why you can’t just answer the question with yes or no. You are blowing the horn big time about the control panel, so why not let people know if there is any improvement there?

It’s a very simple question that determines whether to buy the upgrade or not; not a “I want to know how this works”.

As for upgrading itself I suppose your payment options are still limited to credit card (which I don’t have nor want) and Paypal (which I had but with which I’m in a legal battle). No checks drawn on a US bank, for example?

If check is your only option, we typically will find a way to work it out as long as its from a US bank. We don’t offer that standard because we do not release the software until the check has cleared our bank. That means there is a long wait before purchasing and receiving the product, which most people don’t like (mail check, we take check to bank, bank clears check). Given the time involved and the manual labor involved it rarely ends up being worth the effort if PayPal or credit card is an option.

The same goes for purchase orders, which are even worse in terms of time and manual labor required.

Hi, Erik - thank you for your feedback; but we’re simply not going to answer those types of questions.  We’re doing our best to keep everyone as in the loop as possible and we have spoken about some features (such as FieldFrame being incorporated).  but others you will just have to wait - it’s not a much longer wait. =)

We do accept physical check, but the volume discount is not honored for checks due to the additional administrative work required.  If you want to pay by check please email sales and I will forward instructions to you.

Hi, Bishnu - there has been a license review and there will be licenses changes, but the details on that are not yet finalized.

Just for some clarification; will these licensing changes coincide with the Dec. 1st date for the 2.0 release? Will these changes affect the 1.6x branch as well? If so, will site owners be required to agree to these new changes to continue to receive security & maintenance updates prior to the expiration of their initial or extended support period?

    Thanks

There are no significant license changes planned for 12/1. The license is in review and there is the possibility of expanding to different usage scenarios during 2.x development but not at release.

    Lisa/Leslie,

Can i ask a theoretical question about forum 2.0 ...
I am a happy forum user, but historically it has been difficult for my developer to modify forum (relative to regular template). For example, I’d really like to add tagging to the forum, among other features ... is there any reason to think that forum modifications in EE 2.0 will be easier for my (awesome) developer?

(my $0.02 on pricing and core: what’s the fuss? EE is still underpriced, total bargain…least expensive aspect of total site cost. I’d pay more for my license)

    David
