Auth libraries are probably the most contributed libraries in the wiki. Yes, it does take effort to create one. I like mine, and because I created it, it works great for me.
Everytime I see this thread in my inbox, I think WTF is up with CodeIgniter taking a leak? HA!

That’s exactly it. The topic is so vague that you cannot create one single solution. All of these auth libraries keep starting off small and simple, then get bastardised beyond all recognition and end up an overcomplicated mess such as FreakAuth Lite (sorry!).
They are so non-standard, that I haven’t written an auth system, I’ve written about 6! You simply cannot make “one” system that covers everything without it being ridiculously complicated, and we don’t want bloated crap in CI!
