Just curious if the beta 1 to 2 has an upgrade path for those that choose?
Not that I was part of beta 1, but wondering about.
Or even upgrading a 1.6 site up to the beta, I’ve got some old sub-domain’s I could push forward w/ the beta that are old branch, no harm done?

This type of info will be addressed when Beta2 launches.

This is really some positive news in reference to 2.0 beta2. I am sure i like everyone would rather it was there yesterday!!! 😊 but knowing how you guys feel about dates, and release times this is really positive.

This is great news ! I didn’t have a chance to play with the first Beta, but I like your transparency and the way you communicate on it.

Beta participants thusfar have been permitted to run the beta on personal/non-profit, non-critical sites.  It’s not been permitted to run them on commercial sites or on mission-critical personal/non-profit sites.

If am am a lucky beta2, it will be closed sites / offline, etc. But then again i will have changed my thoughts by tomorrow!

Beta1 allowed people to update live, non-critical sites to 2.0. So in other words there are sites on the net running 2.0 live right now and have been for awhile. Beta2 will extend that, probably by quite a bit but I’m not sure we’ll be recommending people update critical sites to 2.0 at the start of Beta2 but the goal is to certainly get there in the testing process.

I’d like to get started on the new version of my company’s site with MSM and multiple installs of the beta. It wouldn’t need to go live until the final release date, whenever that happens - even if it’s next year sometime. The current site would stay live until then.

Might this be allowed with Beta2?

If it’s on a non-live development server, you can build any type of site you like.  The caution is that there is no guaranteed smooth upgrade path from a beta version to the final release candidate.  Depending on certain changes, there’s always the possibility that it could require manual manipulation of your database, or even rolling back to a previous build’s backup.

Thanks, Derek. The chance of a rough upgrade path should be worth what I learn about the new interface. It will also allow me to spend enough time with the beta so I can contribute some useful feedback.

One of the things I’m eager to test with EE2 is write Add Ons. It’s not really a need today, as I usually find what I need in all the great Add Ons that already exist.

But as a Code Igniter developer, I hope my knowledge of the framework will help me feel a bit home so I can start dive into it !
