Sometimes, you got to sit back and see the ‘other’ posts of the spammer to really know he is one. Btw, shouldn’t there a ‘delete post’ button?

Yeah, sometimes what would seem like a SPAM profile makes a few legit comments, maybe they’re trying to build karma before spammig us to death lol
And you expect everyone to be trusted with a delete post button?

well, the delete ‘your own post’ button should only be available if you’re the last one to post in a thread.

Could we maybe add a check, which will automatically remove a post (and even the user) if enough people report it as spam? This will cut down on the number of posts/users the mods need to remove manually 😊
I think this would work quite well, as me, Fuzzy and bargainph seem to be reporting a lot today (and there doesn’t appear to be any mods online yet)

I vote akismet as well.

These spammers are getting clever
Today I’ve seen 2 differant, on topic (well, as on topic as spam gets) spam
Such as a credit cars spammer on the card verification and paypal threads
Their bio also seems to read like a story (with half a dozen spam links thrown in for good measure) lol

Hi Guys,
I thought I’d jump back in this topic as I have even been seeing a heavy hit of spam today. A user has created the askimet plugin for vbulletin, and could very well work over here too. Not the plugin, of course, askimet. 😊
http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=118421
There is even a CodeIgniter Library for this:

Out of this, you guys would need a interface to handle the false positives (and even post it back and let askimet know it was a false positive). From what I understand, the system is rather intuitive.
To avoid smashing the crap out of the service, I would only check each users posts who have less then x valid posts. You don’t usually see to many spammers with more then 5 posts even.

There appears to be one spammer (bot) racing up the memebership list post count faster than Damian and Fuzzy, but none of their posts are visible. These Ellislab guru’s are very tricky me thinks.
But why not simply delete the profile?

Is this **** the one? (ID = 95350)
He’s averaging 800 posts a day, but no results for his posts 😖 and the’re all new posts as well

Yes Damian, but I didn’t want to “spam” the forums with that name, things like that indexed by Google will attract more of the cockroaches. 😛

I’ve edited my post, and even removed the ID from the link so there isn’t another link into his profile (and name)

It’s been a difficult day at the spam control office today for sure.
I believe as CI forums membership increases its spammer type members (about 20-40 per day at present) the whole issue will continue to snowball because it attracts more of them exponentially as their profiles and keywords are indexed.

relax guys, we’re on it.

We (well, I am) are relaxed… just bringing it to your attention
Although there definatly has been an increase in spam lately :(

Who’s not relaxed?
Like any good PR man Derek doesn’t want us to stir up the natives. 😛
