Been there, done that, liked it, didn’t like ATIs Linux drivers though :(

The current ATI drivers aren’t THAT bad. I’m running the (proprietary) FGLRX driver and it works decent enough. Then again I don’t like Textmate at all. Either you run a REAL IDE (Netbeans/Eclipse variants) or you run a REAL texteditor (VI/EMACS). Textmate is neither 😉

The ATI drivers where good enough when all I was doing was having an external screen running at 1024x768 next to my laptop… When I upgraded to an external 23” screen running at 2048x1152, it just couldn’t cope, and it looked awful at anything less then native resolution
So for now, I just use linux VM’s if needed

And I also use a real IDE (Eclipse FTW)

Hmmm weird. I run 1920x1200 and it works flawlessly (with all the Compiz eyecandy activated just to annoy the MS fanboys in our office). Which Catalyst driver did you try?

Coda doesn’t support auto complete, nor does it support PHP (as far as I know). I’m using Komodo and I would never ever change it again, unless I find something that’s better.

PHP is supported, auto complete is on the way of Coda’s team, it’s a young but very promising editor.

@n0xie: I can’t remember the exact version, but it was the latest one available at the time (this was about 5-6 months ago)
I tried the ATI dirvers, various open ource drivers etc
I tried using CCC, and manually editing xorg.conf, but nothing worked :(

I even tried about a dozen distros, with KDE, Gnome and XFCE

I see. Hopefully when you get an Nvidia card you’ll try again. I’m not a Linux evangelist but I do feel it’s the best OS out there atm 😉

I can’t see myself getting an nVidia card any time soon… its a laptop, and replacing the GFX card is too much hassle… Had I known I would have been using Linux when I got it (and that nVidia had the better Linux drivers) I would have probably paid a bit more for the nVidia card, but I was an uneducated Windows user at the time
