Its difficult to believe that only a week ago we were all arriving in Austin, preparing for 5 days of adventure with the EE Community. I can say this was the best SXSW yet. A big thank you goes out to everyone who took the time to sit down with us, feasted with us at the Moonshine, or found other ways to connect.

Yes, we’re all excited about seeing the ExpressionEngine Developer Preview (Kaylee), but underneath that SXSW 2009 was a wonderful reminder that it is the people, all of you, that makes what we do worth it. That includes those of you who couldn’t join us. We thoroughly enjoyed every event, every date, and every conversation (check it out on Flickr).

I want to take a moment to give a big thank you to the teams that provided prizes for the Party at the Moonshine.

    EngineHosting
    EE Screencasts
    GearLive
    Hambo Development
    Newism
    Solspace
    Train-ee

I will now make a valiant effort to recount the highlights and bring everyone up to speed on 2.0 progress.

SXSW was incredible.  After last year I spent all year looking forward to this year’s events - meeting the community, hanging out, and especially the dates was such an incredible experience.  Thanks for a great weekend everyone; and to those that couldn’t be there - next year, eh?! =)

Great round up guys. Looks like everyone had a massive blast at SXSW this year. Hopefully the Newism crew will be there in person in 2010!

Thank you for hosting EE meetings/dates & party!
I really enjoyed meeting the team for the first time & getting to know EE’s philosphy.

And the Kaylee preview… I am thoroughly impressed and really looking for getting my hands on it!

I was sad not to get to SXSW (but followed Paul Boag’s twitters/podcast quite a bit!!).  Maybe next year for me!!

Let me just say… I am getting very excited about EE 2.0, and can’t wait to see it in action.  I love CodeIgniter, and sometimes wish that I could do things in EE that I can do in CI… now I will be able to!  Yay for me!

Also, from this description, it sounds like some of my (very minor) peeves about EE will be fixed… mainly around the templates not having their correct extensions, plus being able to create templates that are simply “found” by EE.  It also sounds like a much better idea to integrate the Gallery into the core of EE.

Good stuff guys… am waiting with baited breath for the next bit of EE 2.0 news!

    😊

SXSW was fun this year (not that the previous years weren’t fun). The Moonshine Grill party was a bit overcrowded but good nonetheless. Solspace’s nightcap was also great. It was good to see the EllisLab crew again and meet up with the Solspace gang, some of whom I was meeting face-to-face for the first time despite working with them for years.

Oh and it was also nice winning one of the iPod shuffles! 😊

I didn’t get to see Kaylee, but will soon enough. Looking forward to it!

I’m late checking in on the forums since SXSW last weekend. Need you ask why?  😊 Well ... that, plus this was Spring Break week, and I’ve been just lounging a bit.

Just wanted to thank Leslie and everyone else at EllisLab for a great SXSW experience, and for the great preview of Kaylee Saturday morning. Great to see everyone again!

Excellent round-up. Makes me really wish I could go, but…

In the first picture one of the guys is wearing an ExpressionEngine Tee. Where can I get one of those?

    Hi Sean,

That t-shirt was one of our giveaways from SXSW 2008.

Excellent update, this is a good sign that 2.0 is definitely on its way to completion! Thanks for the update!

Let me add a huge thanks for the update.  I didn’t make it to SXSW, but I feel like this update told me everything I need to know for now.  Fortunately, as a developer - and most folks around here are - we all respect the challenges and hard work you all are putting into 2.0, so we wait patiently, knowing that you will deliver the same stellar work for the same stellar community.

Look forward to future updates.  Love the photo with Veerle. Her smile says a lot.

Nice to hear from those who were there - for those who couldn’t make it (us!), this is a great way to catch up. Can I say that 2.0 is starting to sound really great?

Publish/Edit interface includes direct access to the File Manager, new field types (Upload, Numbers), and can be redesigned using just the mouse.

Can an attendee elaborate on this please - I assume ‘Upload’ will do what Mark Huot’s file currently does but what is ‘Numbers’?

It provides a “numeric” field type, including validation when submitting the entry, as well as true numeric sorting for the orderby= parameter (MySQL treats numbers in text fields differently when sorting).
