So is anyone else trying the Safari 4 Beta? I like it so far although I’ve only been using it for about 20 minutes.

Yep using it although I was an early tester of the Beta programme. Quite like it although I’ve put the tabs back to where they used to be 😉 I sincerely hope that’s not the way that Snow Leopard is going to go with tabs at the top of windows as I don’t think it’s what I’ve come to expect from Apple. All seemed very odd to me.
Speed-wise seems a lot faster and a few new features in there which are nice although I’d already been using the developer tools due to the Beta testing.
All in all a nice application and I hope that other browser manufacturers (names shall not be mentioned but I think we all know who I mean here 😉 ) follow in the footsteps of Apple so that we can all offer a much better online experience to users with the sites that we design in the future. We can but hope though!! 😊
Best wishes,
Mark

It’s embarrassing to admit how long it took me to ‘find’ where the tabs were… 😝
Agreed though I think its faster. Of course I have nothing to back that up. It could just be that its Friday and I’m truly sad by staying in and downloading the Beta program to have a play.

Just incase anyone wants the tabs back the way they used to be (I know I did) then there is a nice little Safari addition available here :
Has a few other nice tidbits in it too.
Best wishes,

I’m extremely impressed with it so far. So far the ‘beta’ is quicker and somehow more reliable than Safari 3. I thought I’d give the tabs a chance to grow on me and they have done, so I’ll stick with them. If you think it about it, it’s a little more logical for them to be on top of the window, encompassing the address bar, than below it. All that’s needed now is for the Inquisitor/Glims search to start working properly, as the extra step of browsing the Google results is a bit of a pain.

Does it take how long that it “loads” itself when first opening. i really dont like it at all when first opened and it loads so freakin long, heh i know i know…

I find it’s far quicker to load than Firefox. Three times faster, at the least.

No problems here with loading it up and I have WAAAAYYY too many bookmarks. I don’t even like to think about how many I have nowadays!!

I agree. In other words: tabs are now (and show) ‘titles’ for different opened pages. And we have one row less in the browser window.
What about the missing blue progress bar? 😉

I know, I know - I asked if you miss it very much 😉

First load took me awhile for some reason like mentioned. But subsequent loads have been fast even after a restart. I think maybe it was reindexing the history which would make sense with the new suggestion system.
Generally its been fine. But I HATE the new tabs. They drove me nuts till I realized I could turn them back to normal. I drag and rearrange my tabs a lot so the combination of the small tab dragging target with the new behavior was just too much.
Otherwise its made little impact on how I use Safari which is good in my book.

Erm I don’t miss it as I changed the preference to bring it back again! 😉

I like it.. although it does break GrowlMail for Mac Mail :(
Once I figured that out, I could play again 😊

I have to give it two thumbs up, but I don’t like the tabs where they are.
