Bloqs

By BoldMinded
Publishing
Description

The most powerful and flexible rich content editor for ExpressionEngine.

Bloqs gives content authors the flexibility of a WYSIWYG editor, but keeps all the content in the right type of reusable buckets–instead of one cludgy field.

Bloqs offers several advantages over the native Fluid field, such as the ability to group multiple fields into a single block, and structure to your blocks by making them nestable. You can create a true heirarchial relationship between blocks, and have them render as such in your templates.

Bloqs vs Fluid field feature comparison

Features Bloqs Fluid
Build complex pages ✔ ✔
Works with Live Preview ✔ ✔
Multiple fields per block ✔
Drafts ✔
Cloning ✔
Works with Publisher ✔ (coming soon)
Output nested HTML markup ✔
Supports Grid fields (use Simple Grids & Tables) ✔

Bloqs and Fluid both solve a similar problem by letting content editors dynamically build robust pages based on a pre-defined set of fields they can add to the page in any order, however, Bloqs separates itself from Fluid in 2 distinct ways.

  1. Bloqs lets you create a block that contains multiple fields (or atoms). For example you can assign a heading, description, and image to a single block, then add that block to the page. Since each field is in the same block, they can work together in your templates (one field could be a configuration option that determines what another field in the same block will do). Fluid adds a single field at a time to the page and they do not related to each other. You can add a Grid field inside of a Fluid field, but Grid fields have a horizontal layout, so the presentation is not as clean to content editors.
  2. With Bloqs, you can define an structural hierarchy to your blocks, and define which blocks can be nested inside of others. This is called the Nesting feature. A simple change to your HTML markup will generate properly nested elements in your page. This makes it very easy to build layouts with CSS Grid, Flexbox, or a custom CSS layout framework.

This add-on comes with an optional 1 year renewal fee of $49.00. Read more about renewals.
