Instead of manually downloading a ZIP, unzipping it, finding the correct add-on folder, and uploading it through FTP or SFTP, Addon Manager + detects valid ExpressionEngine add-on packages using addon.setup.php and extracts them into the active add-ons directory.

From there, ExpressionEngine remains in control of the actual add-on lifecycle. Install, update, settings, and uninstall actions stay connected to ExpressionEngine’s native add-on manager, while Addon Manager + provides a more convenient package management layer for uploading, detecting, and organizing add-on ZIPs.
