EEConf 2024 is around the corner! EEConf 2024
This add-on does not work for at least 2 years or more. I used this with Microsoft Word (yes, Word has an option to write blogs and connect to WordPress and other services using this API) and it does not work anymore. I also tested this with many other blog software that support the protocol and they all fail. Same error it had on version 5 and still on version 6. I think this worked only until Expression Engine 3 if memory servers me right.
vw000, Can you elaborate more on what doesn’t work with Metaweblog for you? I know you posted issues you had a while back ( https://expressionengine.com/?ACT=265&reply=ZhpkvoTig4LYjiSctZP5uuNCFzLUmuRRuSdNAVv9dqqjLI2gr6%2BumzNj1qzMC1qzp7JjRnoVVX3v1GtF7Qw6UOfqixTH7XBb4J0SkwJynKoVeyM2kncPoyYunKW06YWn&return=cotBJWX52eztbLsiiOa0ytPBKGPNwvFEHNz6gnn8qro%3D . However, since the release of EE 6.1, all reported bugs with Metaweblog have been resolved.
If you’re still having issues with it, it would be great to have a bug report on the issues so that we can troubleshoot further. thanks
Well, if the issues are resolved I have no idea why I cannot connect with MS Word. I also downloaded other Metaweblog API clients (most are very old…) and they all give the same error.
I still get the same errors in the latest EE version that I posted on that forum post you linked.
I have Office 365 so it should be the latest version and also the latest EE version. The documentation for EE 6 only lists how to configure 2 Mac pieces of software. I think MS Word is the only new or supported text editor that supports this API so a tutorial on how to configure it in the documentation would be nice.
I have no idea if there is some security or permission issue but at least on my side I was never again able to make Word publish to Expression Engine. I used it in the past to post news and blogs and it worked fine, even with images. It was very comfortable to be able to just launch my text editor and start writing and hit one button to have the content published vs having to log into EE and use the web interface.
If this is working, at least I cannot get it to work with Microsoft Word anymore. For those wondering, how to setup up this in MS Word, when you click on a new document select the Blog option that lets you configure the service to the blog service you want to publish.
It is normal to get the following error when I try to access the URL listed in the Metaweblog API module? The one I’m supposed to used to register the account?

Found an updated client for Windows. Just tested Open Live Writer available for free at:
https://openlivewriter.com/
But it also gives me an error.
Server Error 804
No Channels found for this user.
Testing as admin user to avoid any permission related issues. At least, it does seem to connect to EE because that message about channels is from the EE web server side. I think I would need to set up the channel in the software first, but just downloaded this client, and it does not give me the option out of the box. I will try to research a bit more, but this is the most updated software I found that supports this API for Windows.
