EEConf 2024 is around the corner! EEConf 2024
Hello, I got an email stating that my website was hacked, and when I went to the site I got this error.
Error: Unable to load the requested file: helpers/file_helper.php
I tried deleting all unknown and malicious files and continued to have this error. I then tried restoring an old backup but got an htaaccess error. I’m not really sure what to do next here, any help would be appreciated.
HI Bijan,
Thanks for passing this along.
Very odd that this was hacked… do you know the source of the hack? (We haven’t had any reports along these lines…. generally speaking hacks happen from other adjacent apps, CMS’s etc.)
I would very much so recommend upgrading to 6.2.5 as a first line of action… there’s a lot of bug fixes etc in it… This will also update all of your core files.
I think there’s a pretty good chance that the issue above will be resolved with a simple upgrade.
Thanks,
-Tom Jaeger
I’ll do that, unfortunately, I can’t access admin either. Is there another way to upgrade?
As for the source, I’m not too sure. We received an email from the Google Search Console Team that there is ‘Hacked Content detected’ . It included a link to the page the content was found. All I got was the error. I then found a bunch of random folders and files in the site, which I deleted. This didn’t work. I tried restoring a backup as well and got an htaaccess error.
Hi Bijan,
I assume your hitting an error on the admin side of things as well?
RE Upgrading a different way, I’d take the manual approach which should be pretty easy since your on version 6 already.
I’m not saying this is the case… however, what your describing falls in line a bit with something having happened with the server as a whole. Might be worth checking with your host.
Thanks,
-Tom Jaeger
