How do I get rid of this "index.php/site" before my pages or directories?

I would like to have cleaner URLs. How can I get around the URL structure?

By searching for it on the forums, and/or reading the appropriate wiki entry.

Ingmar thank you for nothing. Don’t even bother to post if you are not doing to help.

Don’t worry. It’s just, you know, this is such an FAQ that a search could not have failed to turn it up.

Ingmar has given a lot of great help here in the forums with over 6K posts. There are times though when a question that has been asked over, and over, and over again (so there are plenty of threads and/or wiki entries), the simple answer is just “search”. This was one. I happened to have the wiki open so it was easy for me to add links. Not to say you didn’t but too many times users take no initiative on their own to find the answer. That gets frustrating after a while 😉

I am sure not al users would feel the same way you do, regarding this subject.

I can see that you are a person of little character and compassion.

@ventistudios - everyone appreciates that many users come here looking for help and the community is more than willing to help. As many requests come up again and again the advice is simply to search the forums and wiki *before* you post. If you had done so you would have found many posts on this.

It also is frustrating when a user like myself, did search for an answer and other individuals assume you did not.

What might be obvious to more experienced users is not so obvious to beginners.

My point to Ingmar is that it is best not to respond than to make little of a person or situation. If it bothers readers to answer the same question over and over, then please do not answer it, because somewhere there is a person out there might be willing to take the time.

Well, perhaps not. So, let me backup a bit. PXLated expressed my sentiments very well, but you are correct in that perhaps I should simply have held my tongue. Either way, you were given a direct link to the relevant information, so I take some exception to attacking other regulars on this forum.

As a rule, this is a very friendly and helpful community. Let’s keep it that way.

I can see that you are a person of little character and compassion.

    That was totally uncalled for.

I m just trying to get the point across that it’s not always obvious what to search for when trying to solve a problem. So to make someone feel small just because they cannot find the answer is not what EE would want represented here. So in my eyes it’s it is of low character to attack someone who might ask an easy question in the eyes of an experienced user.

I appreciate the help I really do. I just want to also be treated with respect as all users do, even if a simple question is asked.

I think it’s relevant to ask for search help from those who already understand something about it. Not serially, mind you, but to get a hang of it.

It gets to be a bother repeating the same pattern over and over again.

For instance: In this case, I would have started with “remove index.php” in either the knowledge base, wiki, or user guide search fields. Conversely, I may have started with “remove index.php site:www.expressionengine.com” in http://www.google.com to start with.

You’ll notice if you search in the User Guide portion of the help docs, it does a search with the site: prefix, so Google will automatically narrow it’s results to EE-specific stuff.

Sometimes, though, just think about the search terms aloud. Speak a search to yourself, and try to figure out how someone else may have asked for the same exact thing, and try to pattern your search on the similarities in the way that you voiced it, and someone else may have voiced the problem. Think key words.

Try a couple patterns. Read the short results in Google to get little clues to the good search terms.

That always helps me. Within 6-7 searches, I’ve found what I want. And I never, really, need forums to get answers using that method. I’m usually looking for answers that in almost all cases have been answered, I just don’t know where yet, because I don’t know the language or the juicy search keywords.

Follow the yellow brick road… 😊

Thank you Jared for the tips. I really do appreciate them. I’ll try this approach when help is needed the next time.
