    When I register a new test user, I DO NOT receive the activation email. The account goes into pending in CP member list though. I can send emails on the CP so the email system is definitely working. I also checked the spam folder but it’s not there either. What seems to be wrong here?

    I am currently running EE 1.6.8 b 20100121.

    Are you registering from the front end or the back end? You won’t receive any sort of notification if you are adding someone using the control panel backend method.

    Can you receive emails sent to the same email address from the Communicate tab?

    Kim Ryu Hyun,

    CP Home ›  Admin ›  System Preferences ›  Email Configuration

    Under your Email Configuration do you have a Return email address for auto-generated emails and Webmaster or site name for auto-generated emails  set? If not do so now.

    What email protocol are you using?

    Is this a live server or a local install?

    This is regular EngineHosting account. It’s not live just yet.

    I’m using PHP mail.

    Kim,

    Can you confirm if you filled in the Webmaster or site name for auto-generated emails? If this is not filled in then some mailservers can see this as a spam email

    Yes I have but it’s in Korean(non-English).

    In addition, when I try to register, following error shows up and no activation mail gets sent out.

    Your membership account has not been activated yet.

    How many Pending accounts do you have?

    EngineHosting occasionally has problems sending email notifications that end up in the Spam folder. But if you’re getting the other error message, that problem sounds like something else. Which mail reader are you using?

    I have several in the system. I’ve been trying to solve this problem for few days now.

    I use Google Apps email so it’s over the web without any client.

    Do you have a regular GMail account you can test this with?

    I do and I have tested that as well but still not sending.

    One interesting thing to note is that when I use Solspace’s Freeform, all of the notifications sent out just fine to the same email addresses that I having problem with.

    And I can send emails from the communicate tab to same email addresses just fine. But only the EE specialty templates are not sent for some strange reason.

    I hope that helps.

    Did you ever go back to 1.6.9? I know you have another thread still open.

    I have tried to upgrade to 1.6.9 but it seems that 1.6.9 broke some important add-ons that I use so I had to revert back to 1.6.8 again. As soon as I can gather newer add-ons that support 1.6.9, I will try to upgrade to it. But I’m not in position to do that just yet.

    In the meantime, I have completely re-uploaded all 1.6.8 and add-ons files but still the problem continues.

    What should I try next?

    Which add-ons?

    I use many add-ons as follows:

    * Favorites 2.5.6
    * FieldFrame 1.3.5
    * Freeform 2.7.2
    * Image Sizer 2.5.6
    * LG Polls 1.0.9
    * LG Replace 1.0.0
    * LG Social Bookmarks 2.0.2
    * nGen File 0.9.10
    * Playa 2.1.1
    * REEOrder 1.2
    * Rating 2.3.3
    * Related Entries 1.1.2
    * Structure 2.1.1
    * Tag 2.6.6
    * User 3.0.1

    At this time, I am not sure which one is causing problems with 1.6.9. When I tried to upgrade, the backend CP looked alright but the front-end site looked havoc.
