What version and build of EE are you using?
You can find this in the footer of your control panel.

When you set the Enable Multiple Site Manager to yes in Admin ›  System Preferences ›  General Configuration what happens?
Does it log you out back to the login page?

Are you able to goto Edit Sites under the new Sites tab?

    Hi John,

My version is ExpressionEngine 1.6.8 Build:  20090723.

When I set the Enable Multiple Site Manager to yes in Admin ›  System Preferences ›  General Configuration ,
It doesnot log me out. But when I close the browser and open the controlpanel again I couldnot able to login again.

I can see the new tab called sites. I also created a new site. But when I select the newly created site under the sites tab, it is loading the default site.

Please help me. Today I need to resolve this issue since I have a urgent commitment tonight.

    Thanks,
    Nallasivan

    Hi John,

    For your information.
Actually I was using the core free version build 20090723, but after that we bought licensed commercial version with build id 20100121. Today I upgraded to the licensed version. After that I installed MSM.

In the upgradation I just replaced the folder mentioned in the upgrading tutorial. is that a problem. do i need to replace any other thing.

You replaced all the folders mentioned here?

    http://expressionengine.com/docs/installation/update_from_core.html

It doesnot log me out. But when I close the browser and open the controlpanel again I couldnot able to login again.

Does it refresh the page when you enter your login details again?

I can see the new tab called sites. I also created a new site. But when I select the newly created site under the sites tab, it is loading the default site.

When you created your new site did you create a blank one or duplicate your default site?

Have you updated your settings in Admin -> General Configuration for the second site?

I didnt do anything from the following document.

Yes it refresh the page after I enter the login details. but it didnt tell any messages. But if I gave any invalid username it is error out invalid user message. But when I give a valid username it just refresh and it wont go to the control panel and it is still in the login page.

I created a blank new site.

Have you updated your settings in Admin -> General Configuration for the second site?

I cannot go to second site’s admin area. If i select the second site, it is still in the default first site. I cannot go to second site.

So, just to confirm, you are on the latest version and build of both EE and the MSM? You followed the MSM installation instructions to the letter? Are you using any extensions?

Nallasivan, how is your second site structured compared to your first site? Can you post what’s in your path.php file for the second site here?

    Hi Sue,

After installed MSM, i turned on MSM in Admin ›  System Preferences ›  General Configuration. After that I created a blank site called Test2. It is showing under Sites tab. but when I select the site “Test2”, it is defaulting to first site(i.e, default site.). I cannot do anything with Test2 since the breadcrumb is always showing SITE 1› even I select second site.

so I didnt put any path.php for second site, since I cannot able to change preferences for second site.

Hmmm… have you tried deleting all your cookies and trying again? Or even with a different browser?
