Now, I can’t go ahead and say that I haven’t been pretty inspired by the designs done by 31three.  I can get on my high horse and honestly say I’ve never completely ripped anything off.  When i see things like this though, http://seoclass.org/, I don’t know whether to laugh or to want to sneer at the guy.  I came across the site looking for a quick .htaccess file for a wordpress blog.  The caricature looked so damn familiar but i couldn’t place it.  Then it hit me, oh yeah! the rick ellis picture.  I know it is harmless and silly.  There isn’t really anything that can be done by it.  So I did the next best thing any self-respecting web user would do, flame him on a forum.

I’d love to create a hall of shame ala ffmpeg.org.  I’ve seen the CI documentation stylesheet in tons of places without any credit being given at all.  Is it just negativity and a waste of time worrying about stuff like this?  Or does it nag at the creativity elitist in the back your heads too?  Is it a case of http://www.merlinmann.com/rightnow/ ?

To help facilitate a consistent, easy-to-read documentation style for CodeIgniter projects, Ellislab is making the markup and CSS from the CodeIgniter user guide freely available to the community for their use. For your convenience, a template file has been created that includes the primary blocks of markup used with brief samples.

As far as rants go, this one is pretty weak. Maybe we can create a hall of shame for rants, too.

10 points for paying attention.  It wasn’t a rant.  It was asking whether or not ripping off someone’s style is worth a rant or not in other people’s opinion.  I went as far as to link a picture of a pickled brain to represent the worth of ranting over ripped off style.

And i understand that the doc style sheet are for free use.  However, i have always taken this to mean use as far as creating documentation for plugins and libraries for CI/EE, while still giving reference to the origin.  It was more of an ethics question rather than legality.  The response you gave obviously answers your ethical position.

Guess unless i’m hardcore slamming something or whining about CI/EE updates (or lack thereof), I don’t belong trying to start conversation.

    C’est la vie, eh?

Am I missing something here?  Is that picture an exact ripoff of one of the Ellislab pictures or is it just similar in style?  Can somebody point me to the image @ Ellislab?

The SEO class is a stock photo. And i’ve seen it being used all over the place.
