I’m just about to start using the Gallery module but I’d like to have the images uploaded and loaded from a separate server for performance reasons. Is there an easy way to make it work?

I looked for another discussion about this but the only thing I found was an unresolved question here:

Any ideas? A little bit of coding would be okay… just don’t want to have to rewrite everything to get it to work. No coding would be better of course. For example, could the ‘Server Path to Image Directory’ be on a different server? I remember trying this last year and it didn’t work.

No, this would not work, at least not easily. Since we are talking about “server paths” here, not URLs, they need to reside on the same server as EE. I am not saying that something like that couldn’t be pulled off using, say, NFS or a similar mechanisms, but it’s not supported and would require considerable knowledge on the part of the server administrator.

If you want me to, I can move this over to Howto to allow for further discussion.
