    Hi…!

I’ve got a character set problem that I just can’t fix. I’m moving an EE site between servers, and everything is fine apart from euro, apostrophe and curly quote characters which aren’t displaying correctly.

I’ve followed most of the forum advice I can find, but without any luck.

    - I’ve used ALTER to update the database collation from ‘latin1_swedish_ci’ to ‘utf8_general_ci’
    - This matches the template encoding which is ‘charset=UTF-8’
    - EEs ‘Default Character Set’ is set to ‘utf-8’

    Some more info…

    - When I look at the database content directly in phpMyAdmin, the characters are displayed correctly.
    - When I look at the database content using Utilities/ SQL Manager / Manage Database Tables the characters are mangled
    - New entries display character correctly.

    Help, really, really appreciated!

Greetings Simon.  Do you have a link to the site we can see?  Also, what version/build are you running?  Both values can be found in the footer of your control panel.

Hi Greg…! Running 1.6.1 / 20071114. I’m a little bit reluctant to upgrade because it’s a site that has been working fine on the current server, so “if it ain’t broke…”.

    I’ve PM’d you a link to take a look at…

    Thanks v. much!

    Hi Greg -

Amazing what a good night’s sleep and a few hours away from EE does. I’ve re-imported the database with the correct character set selected on import, and everything (fingers-crossed) is fine.

    Cheers again!

    Simon,

I’m glad it’s working for you now.  I’m closing this one out, but if anything else comes up, don’t hesitate to start a new thread.

    Regards,

    -greg
