I see on Michael Boyink’s http://www.train-ee.com site that he does some interesting training sessions in the US. Is there anything similar held in London or Europe?

Actually, you’re in luck. Its not quite the same thing but Jamie Pittock is hosting Building Beautiful Websites with ExpressionEngine as part of Future of Web Design - London next year.

Jamie is part of the Erskine Design team. We consider them among the best of the best EE Pros.

All the workshops I like the look of are in the morning at the same time :(

Nice! Looks exactly the kinda thing I was after, not sure how feasible that is though, only one other workshop that interests me in the line up but that clashes with the EE one, so I would end up paying £295.00 + VAT for a 3 hour lecture.  😖

Why do all the external links in EE’s forum open up in the same page, is it not good practice to have external links open up in a fresh window and internal links open up within the same window?

Actually I think it’s considered good practice to have all links open in the same window, thus giving the user choices to open in a new tab (middle click), or open in a new window (control click).  Opening in new windows apparently confuses users (although i’ve only ever seen this be the case with very novice computer users who don’t understand how a windows interface works).

But this is always a hot debate since the average computer user probably doesn’t know how to open up links in new tabs etc.

I was always taught internal links open internally and external links open eternally! Otherwise you have to back track through all the pages to get to your original page.

Some clients in the past have specifically requested external links to open in new windows so as to clearly distinguish the new link is not connected to their site!

Guess it’s just down to personal preference.

Perhaps we should start up a London EE User Group as well.

What does the user group entail?

Meet in a pub, have a beer, chat about EE.

For me it would be more :

Meet in a quite place, have a Coke or Pepsi (not fussy me 😉 ), chat about EE 😊

I went to a few meetings of the London Mac User Group held in the Early 90’s and they were in a quite downstairs room in a pub, can’t remember which one and were generally good - met a lot of people shared a lot of ideas etc. Venue is not really important as long as it is quite, easy to get to and find. We can do a great deal here on line but sometimes its just great to meet other people and share ideas. Now if any of the EE team are in London for a visit we could meet up with them for a chat etc.

I’m up for the London EE user group - I’m only in Surrey and would welcome it.

    Anyone else?

I’d be up for it.  I’d only be able to make a London group if I was down there working at the time…but that isn’t beyond the possible.

Unless there are any northerners around?
