I noticed the XID value in the search form is generated dynamically. Can you just leave this out and create a static EE form tag in a non EE page?

Well, it depends 😊 If you use secure forms (which is a good idea, in general) you can’t—this is the point, after all; EE uses it to make sure that the submitted form was generated by EE and not some external HTML page.
