Hi, I hoped that EE 2.0 would be released by now, but since it isn’t I’m getting a little impatient to start my project… So I’m probably just going to go ahead and start things of with the current version.

My question is though, since I will have content created which will be indexed in the search engines, can I migrate from the old to the new system without losing the URL structure of the site? And also in general, how easy/involved will the migration from 1 to 2.0 be?

This is what we always recommend.

Yes. ExpressionEngine’s template engine is not changing in 2.0 so the URL structure can remain the same.

And also in general, how easy/involved will the migration from 1 to 2.0 be?

Our goal is to make it as seamless as possible. The only known issue at this point will that 3rd party add-ons will need to be updated for 2.0 as add-ons written for 1.x will not work with 2.x by default. There will be a Developer Preview of 2.0 so that third party developers have the opportunity to update their add-ons before 2.0s public release.

Ok, thanks for letting me know, sounds good.

I’m looking forward to work with a CMS that has CodeIgniter at it’s core 😊
