    The weblog module requires a username and email address for people to comment…  Is it possible to allow people to comment with only a name and no email?

    I’m looking for the easiest, lowest barrier way to get people to “stick” to my site.

    Thanks,

    Hiya Narthex,

    If you take a look at :

    Admin->Weblog Administration->Weblog Management->Edit Preferences (Your Weblog Name)->Comment Posting Preferences

    there are a couple of options in there which should help you out. You can allow people to post without having to register for an account and / or allow people to post a comment without using an e-mail address.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

    Would you recommend an easy captcha of some sort then Mark?
    I think otherwise the site may be a honeypot (new term for the day for me) for spammers.

    Yep a Captcha would probably be the best way to go on this one seeing as how you are opening it up to just anyone really.

    Go Captcha. Otherwise, a gazilion people will have something to say on your site, making it a spam magnet.

    I’ve noticed that in the past six months comment spam has worsened on some of the sites I manage; to the point that Moderation is now on. I’m thinking of adding Bad Behavior or Akismet or something else to reduce the effort required to clean it up.

    This is the best forum I have ever used, BY FAR!

    This level of support is extraordinary and makes me actually glad to have paid the price I did for this product.

    Thanks so much, folks!

    Yep this is definitely the place to go to find things out. Everyone on here is very very helpful and I have to say that the users on these forums are the friendliest I have ever come across in any forum in all the years I have been on the net.

    Best wishes,

    Mark
