Not sure where to put this. I’m going to start some sort of project going through CI and trying to tweak it to be perfect for a web gaming platform.

Hence the name CIWG (CodeIgniter Web Games).

I’m not expecting this to be a quickly done project. It will take a while of course.

Look up PBBG in Google for an idea of what I’m shooting for. This will basically be a tweaked framework suitable for quick deployment of web games.

I’m not sure how CI could be tweaked to be a gaming framework. My limited experience with web games is that they are either in flash or that they are text based. For the flashgames you only need a database to store the flash games you want the people to play and for a text game you need authentication to keep track of the users moves. For a board or card game you can use a chat.
These components are usable in many other situations so what do you see specific functionality for gaming?

Well here is the thing, I guess I won’t be ‘tweaking’ it… I will have to go through a lot of stuff, and extend things and add my own stuff to make it in to a very extensible gaming framework.

    Here’s a document explaining more stuff: http://carlwuensche.com/ciwg/CIWG.doc

Update: I now have someone who is going to help develop this system. He might sign up at the forum, I imagine he probably will. So expect some great things from this 😊

I have played a few browser based games that didn’t use flash. Most of them were modified forums. I think that this is a very interesting project especially if you can make it a platform where you can specify sections of the game and the framework/platform does some of the work for you.

Good luck with it and keep us updated.
