sciexpression, I dropped you an email. I’d agree- a closer look may be the best option at this point. Let me know if it doesn’t get through in a timely manner.

OK- spotted one thing off the bat. Can’t swear it will fix the cp, but it does need addressing. In your db, your exp_categories and exp_category_field_data should have the same number of rows. Looks like that got off, most likely in the import- though I won’t swear.
The wiki has a script that should get them synced back up. I didn’t want to run it before knowing you have a good backup in place. So- first, make sure you have a good backup, then paste the linked script in a template w/php turned on, load the browser- then check that those two tables have the same number of rows. At that point, I’d also repair and optimize all tables.
Granted the edit page pulls in all categories- but almost all of your cats are in a single group, and when I open that up in the category admin, load time is acceptable. So I’m not thinking that stock, it should be jamming the edit tab.
Anyway, let’s get those tables synced, the db optimized, and then see how the edit tab performs. If it’s still slow, I’ll go back in and poke some more.
Make sense?

Not really to comfortable with that one. would you like to carry it out in EE? then I will do the optimize. I have backed up the database
thanks

sciexpression, I can go in and run that update query. I don’t anticipate any problems running it. I’ll let you know what happens.

sciexpression, I found two problems with your entries/categories.
One, you had a completely empty entry. I closed it and put in just enough to save it. Please delete the entry. You’re going to want to figure out what didn’t get imported correctly.
Along the same lines, you have an empty category. #14392. You’ll need to find out what caused that.
Is there a reason you have over 4000 categories? What’s the reasoning behind having them?

Is there any way you can roll back your changes to before you did the import?
#23 / Nov 18, 2008 9:35pm
Not really. Perhaps I should delete them. I am using the CSV plug in which is creating these categories.
Perhaps if i delete them and then import them again later?

Hi, sciexpression; Deleting them is going to lead, I believe, to simply more problems. That is not the route I’d recommend at this point.
Unfortunately, this import has left your database in a pretty bad state; this is a third-party/manual import and we’re not able to offer further troubleshooting on this. You’re going to need an ExpressionEngine database expert to have a very close look at the database, assess the damage, and get it fixed up. I would recommend working with someone on the Pro Network toward this.
If you had a backup prior to the import; then you could back up and try to get the import working on a safe, non-live development installation. It’s important to always backup your data before making changes.
Edit to add: I would strongly, strongly recommend that you assess why you need so many categories. We can help in that regard; but 4000 is really a very, very high number.
