For the past five years our team has developed VOIP, Instant Messaging, Personal and Group Video Conferencing, Email, Live Share, online file retrieval/storage and each unit is available separately. For the past month we have been working furiously on bolting them all together to make the “Killer App”. This morning I received an email saying that Microsoft have just released their new Messenger with exactly the same features :(

Fortunately after the initial traumatic experience, we found flaws in the debug version and will continue with a new version targeted towards businesses.

Currently our application weighs in at just over 3 megs.

unfortuantly your application also looks very basic and dated, but you can maybe find a niche market of people who hate messenger 😊

The application is still being written and the front end is designed by programmers. They are concentrating on ease of use and especially not having a jerky conference call, speaker stuttering while a movie file is being up/downloaded on a slow connection (mine unfortunately, seldom do I achieve the claimed 1 Mbs). Once this has been achieved then the application will be presented to the designers to produce some templates.

It was no joke for us to be beaten at the post by Microsoft but we sincerely believe there is still a business market to easily be able to transfer/save any type of file online while having discussions.

    John,

Don’t lose faith - Microsoft is not the market-destroying behemoth it once was. You just need to work out where you are stronger than MS, and use those as your selling points. For example, flexibility: If a customer wants an additional feature or a change in Messenger, it is unlikely MS will make the change for them. One of your selling points could be that you tailor the application to suit the client’s personal specification.

But yes, any new entry to “your” market space is always a PITA, especially someone with an advertising budget like MS!
