    Where do you stand?

I’m from the UK, so it’s not really any of my business, but I’m glad Obama won, it’s renewed my faith in America.

Great news indeed, although I’m still not sure why it takes quite so long!

GSV: One of the major reasons I’m so excited about our new puppet.. err leader. We desperately need something to let the world know that we want change and we’re tired of the International community associating the citizens with our leaders. It’s not like we mold them out of clay at some big party. We have to always choose the lesser of two evils. We can only choose a president from the selection. Personally, I’m looking forward to an Independent (non-partisan) candidate being noticed in 2012. Our media makes damn sure that nobody knows anything about the “other party” candidates. They aren’t even permitted to attend the televised debates!

It’s a crying shame that it has to be this way, but whenever I’m in other countries I’m looked at as a child of Bush… Ironically, I will now be looked at as a child of Obama.

How about looking at an American as an individual? There is an overwhelming majority of American trash (as there is in any country), but there are many of us that understand the big picture and would like to leave the rest of the world to themselves.

    Peace.

I voted for Obama this afternoon and am excited that he won although I don’t agree with some of his policy.

What I am not happy with is the result of proposition 8 in California. This goes back and bans same sex marriage in California. I have a family member who just recently was able to marry his partner of 10+ years. They are pillars of their community, one with a doctorate and the other an accomplished engineer. I can understand if a person’s reasoning is based on religion or such, but the tv ads and other propaganda were ridiculous.. Tv Ads spreading blatant lies saying same-sex marriage will be taught in schools to your children and others with sad looking children narrating.

    @George

We like to use as many different methods as possible to cast votes to prolong and confuse the whole situation.  😊

lol. Most Americans, a lot of majority infact, seem pleased with this election result but can Obama keep up to his promises? We’ll see.

No. Neither candidate could do this.

Yes yes I know the general idea.  This is not the first time I have heard or seen somebody say that.  All I am asking is for YOU to back up YOUR claim…

I heard him say in speech to redistribute the wealth, and that definitely sounded the bells off in my head. No one ever says that unless they are communist. if your a capitalist you would never ever freaking say that. never. but I guess its not problem I live in Canada.

Also that McCain guy is not any better he made too mistakes either becuase his senial or what I do not know but he said “hellow my fellow prisoners” in one speech and said he aspired to be a dictator. You guys are really only voting for the lesser of two evils. I would’ve voted for Ron Paul, everything this guy says I do agree with and he sounds like a real swell guy.

You know, as an American, I kind of hoped that the conservatives would be able to put all this partisan stuff behind them and give the other side a chance, not matter how poorly they think of the liberals.

I’m not either a conservative or a liberal; I view them as two sides of the same coin.

But it’s obvious that the Republican’s smear campaign against Obama worked, if people are still going on about “communism” and “socialism”. Just to set the record a little straighter…

In Alaska, residents pay no income tax or state sales tax. They receive a yearly dividend check from a $30 billion state investment account built largely from royalties on its oil. When home fuel and gas costs soared last year, Palin raised taxes on big oil and used some of the money to boost residents’ checks by $1,200. Thus every eligible man, woman and child got a record $3,269 this fall.

She also suspended the 8-cent tax on gas.

“We can afford to share resource wealth with Alaskans and to temporarily suspend the state fuel tax,” she said at the time.

Much as Obama explains his tax hike on the rich as a way to help people who are struggling, Palin’s statement talked about the energy costs burdening Alaskans:

“While the unique fiscal circumstances the state finds itself in at the end of this fiscal year warrant a special one-time payment to share some of the state’s wealth, the payment comes at a time when Alaskans are facing rising energy prices. High prices for oil are a double-edged sword for Alaskans. While public coffers fill, prices for heating fuel and gasoline have skyrocketed over the last six months and are now running into the $5- to $9-a-gallon range for heating fuel and gasoline across several areas of the state.”

In an interview with The New Yorker last summer Palin explained that she would make demands of a new gas pipeline “to maximize benefits for Alaskans”:

“And Alaska we’re set up, unlike other states in the union, where it’s collectively Alaskans own the resources. So we share in the wealth when the development of these resources occurs.”

and let’s not forget what Adam Smith, the father of capitalism has to say about “spreading the wealth”:

In “The Wealth of Nations,” Adam Smith begins his section on taxation with the following maxim: “The subjects of every state ought to contribute towards the support of the government, as nearly as possible, in proportion to their respective abilities.” To ask otherwise, Smith writes, would be obviously unfair.

It’s not all black and white, not all liberals are communists, and sharing the wealth is an old and respected tradition that helps keep countries and societies alive and prosperous.

Heck, that’s what trickle-down economics is supposed to do, the mainstay of the republican free-market platform. Too bad it doesn’t work.

And finally, let’s also remember that the tax hikes Obama plans to put on the elite wealthy are simply putting back a part of the tax cuts Bush gave them over the last eight years.
