I just downloaded both personal and commercial versions of Expression Engine 1.6.5. Both of my subscriptions do not expire until some time in 2009. Once downloaded, when I attempted to open the .zip files I get an error message from WinZip (version 11) indicating the files are not valid archives, please download again.

    Suggestions?

    Thank you,
    Stephen

I would try the download again- replacing the zips you grabbed the first time.  If you’re using a download plugin, I might try disabling that first.  I suspect you aren’t getting the full download and thus the zip is corrupted when you try to open it.

I have tried three separate times to download. All three times I got invalid ZIP files.

I am using Firefox 3.0.1 with no separate download tool.

    Thanks,
    Stephen

I tried Internet Explorer 7 t download and received the same error. Then I tried on another machine and was able to successfully download using IE 7 but not Firefox 3.

It’s probably a network/cache issue or something of the sort. If you cannot get it to work simply send an email to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) and they’ll find a way to get it to you.

Sorry it was giving you such trouble, Mad Hatter.  I can’t duplicate on FF Mac- just did a test download to confirm.  It’s possible virus control was interfering, but I wouldn’t think it would be limited to FF.  Wait- one pc wouldn’t download an uncorrupted copy in either FF/IE.  The other downloaded in IE but not FF3.

The first could be hitting a security filter/virus checker if it’s consistent across browsers.  It seems less likely on the second one, as it varied by browser.  I’ll give the crew a ‘heads up’ and keep an eye open for it happening to others.  If anything jumps out at you as possibly being a factor, definitely let us know.

It happens all the time to me since the beginning of my license (2005) on all browsers (FF, IE, Opera) on PC platform. It happens on all the files I download which are EE, EECore, Forum and Docs.

I just try again (and again) until I get the correct ZIP files (I immediately click the OPEN button to check just after download completes).

I got used to live with it as I usually get the correct files after max. 3 tries…

    It happens to me too.

Here is the way I go:

After clicking download i do not click “save” but “open” button.

The files are downloaded mostly without a problem and opened in Winrar (I do not use winzip).

Then I extract it to a directory.

    This works for me.

If i click the “save” after clicking downlad button, i always get an invalid archive.

I wanted to double check to see if you were able to get this resolved.
