I need any kind of help I can get,

    I’m running EE 1.6.4 on a Windows 2003 Server hosted by 1and1 with IIS6.0

Everything is working fine except I can’t use the email function in EE, I’ve tried configuring SMTP on my server using the docs provided by 1and1 with no luck, I’ve also tried using php Mail and had no luck. Does anyone know of a good document with instructions on setting up email?

I don’t have a preference (Php, SMTP or whatever else) so please provide any help.

    Thanks.

Mod Edit: Moved to the Technical Support forum.

Configuring the server is a bit beyond what we could help with in technical support, and in truth, I’m not familiar with how you’d approach it with 1&1.

I did search around the forums, but didn’t find a whole lot that looked helpful.  This on 1&1 UK boiled down to being on a spam list.

But I think the main question- is it an EE interaction, or is the mail just not going out on anything.  If you open up a file in system/utilities/email_test.php in your browser, you’ll see a simple standalone php email script.  If php mail is working, that should go out.  You could also follow the steps in kblog entry to make sure things are ok on EE’s end- and to get a debug message that might give you a hint as to the problem.  Plain phpmail is generally the easiest to get working.

But if no mail is going out via all apps, I think you may have to ask the host for a bit more help on it.

    Make sense?

Makes sense, I contacted 1and1 and was told that I can’t use their smtp server to send bulk mail (unless using it from a mail client such as Entourage) I think I’ll spend my energy on getting phpmail to work and I’ll get back on the forum if I have any questions.
    Thanks a bunch.

Let us know how it goes.  And like I say- that test email script is probably a pretty good way to check whether php mail is setup in a standard way.  It’s very simple and standalone.  Once that works, it shouldn’t be a problem to get EE using phpmail.

Let us know how it goes.
