Is there any way to hide templates from the dropdown list in the Pages module?

Application: Have 3 templates for a client—one-column, two-column, and three-column. Click the template dropdown and see 19 templates (embeds, headers, javascript, etc…) A bit confusing.

Using the “.template_name” only works in the URL bar of the site itself.

Did you ever find a solution for this? I really only want a client to use one template, but I’ve got like 50 templates on the site.

I do not think you can in the pages module.
However, some of the other hierachy based modules do allow this with their systems.
But i agree an annoying one!

You can set a default template to be auto selected though - which might reduce client based errors.

I’d totally agree, Pages really needs to let you hide templates, from an end user perspective it’s very confusing. I’d *really really really* like to see this. The pages module seems a little under-baked in my opinion.

Also I think it would be handy if you could give templates a human friendly name as you can with the channels. It would be even nicer if you could attach and image for the templates and let the admin choose visually. A great example of this is how http://www.campaignmonitor.com do it in their system.
