I think it’s a good idea but only for a none-changing menu. If you were to try and use it for sub-menus where you might have a site where they are dynamically generated say by weblog entries then that would obviously be a no-no. It is nice to use though as it gets rid of the flicker problem.

It’s never recommended to use a full image navigation in dynamic generated navigation stuff. Then u should be creative with images containing no text, and font-usage, maybe even sIFR…

So many options, so many solutions 😉

full image navigation, could be quite nice with some jquery animate css effects too… might be worth some playing here…

did anyone else notice how they did the menu on the home page?
they had one graphic, repeated with mouse over / live options beneath it. They then use CSS to change the background image position on mouse over, etc…
I have heard people talk of this method, but never really seen it in a production site… Not sure it save any load time, or dev time on doing it this way - any opinions…

    you didn’t search hard enough 😊 http://veerle.duoh.com/blog/comments/the_expression_engine_phase_of_my_new_blog/ (2006!)

I think you’ll find that page is referring to her veerle.duoh.com site not the duoh.com site, sorry.

Still a fairly good read for beginners though.

    Nice and very Veerle.

I had the same thought. It’s very Veerle.  I don’t particularly care for that aesthetic but it’s nice to see such expression in web design.  I’m getting tired of the block 960 grid sites.
