Codeweavers is offering Crossover - run Windows apps on Mac/Linux without Windows - free and fully registered today only.
    Get it while you can.

Well, at least get a license number before midnight, you’ve then got 48h more hours to actually redeem it. It’s been mentioned on Slashdot, Digg and everywhere, so their servers are a little flaky right now.

It’ll be interesting to see how well it works. I’ve run Darwine and it works for some things, not others.

Personally I stick with VMWare Fusion as Crossover just doesn’t seem to work with a lot of things. It has worked with quite a few applications but an awful lot more just doesn’t seem to work.

Using a full emulator for me has always worked out a lot better although I really try to stay clear of looking at a Window environment if I can help it as it just does my head in! I have enough to worry about without having that on my plate too!! 😉

Wonder why they are offering it free to all? Seems a bit much that. I would understand maybe the first so many sign ups getting a free copy as an incentive but not everyone. Oh well their decision.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

Mark - I would agree a full emulator and copy of Windows works best but if one just has an occasional need the price of Windows license is over the top.

As far as why, the president of Codeweavers made free contingent on certain things happening, one was the price of gas. Gas dropped below his figure and he’s upholding his pledge, probably to his chagrin 😊

Yep I do agree on that point it was just that for me whenever I tried it with certain apps it would never do anything. Probably something I was doing wrong somewhere but I just felt that the hassle it was causing me wasn’t really worth it.

What price of gas did it drop down to then? I’m guessing we’re not talking about the UK here? Our prices have dropped but they are still ridiculous in comparison to some countries.

Thanks from me as well, I’d had this one in the back of my mind to try out some day but never got around to it.

Mark - $2.26/gal here this morning. Can’t recall what his trigger point was though.

Ars Technica has the Codeweaver story ($2.79 was the price point).

    Eeekk,

We really are being ripped off in the UK!!!

Over here the best price you can get for a gallon would be around £3.50 that’s about $5.45

I think I’m going over to the US with a big truck and buying a load from you guys!! Our country has gone from ridiculous to outrageous!!

    Best wishes,

Hmmm just read the post that you linked to Leslie,

Is it true that the freebies are only for Americans then?

If so then that really is quite unfair and I think that UK users should all go and sulk right now. 😉

    Best wishes,

Mark, I got my license key just fine. They never asked for anything but an email address.

Cheers PXLated. Have a few things in mind that this could be well useful for.

    Ah right, thanks Ingmar.

Not that I will use it though due to all the problems I had with it and I do have Fusion up and running beautifully for when I need to do that sort of stuff but was just wondering about other countries really.

That clears that one up though.

    Best wishes,

    Mark
