@wiredesignz - That cheered me right up, that particular swearword has such beautiful impact when used at the right time. Excellent work.

Wow. I think we can safely say that such negative, uncalled for and plain out rude comments are also helping to degrade the forum a bit. Come on, wired… you’re an intelligent guy and you’ve made some great contributions with ME and other great stuff. I’d expect that people might lose a little respect for you when they read these kinds of comments… but maybe you don’t care.
I see a lot of sniping here in various threads. I’ve been a minor part of some of them at times but honestly, if somebody posts something that irritates me, I do my best not to respond. All of the *pointless* conflict is doing absolutely nothing for the community except promoting degredation.
There are so many intelligent and creative people in here. THAT is why I’m here (well, and CodeIgniter just kicks ass)... but a lot of the attitudes in here are just… well, nasty. If I was new to this community and I read through some of these threads, it would be a major turnoff to me. The quality of the community is detrimental to a project such as CI… just think if CI was simply that… a link to download the file and maybe a basic userguide. No forums, no wiki, no community following… it would not be as great as it has become—and I think it’s only going to get better, but people… we HAVE to get off of the stupid personal snipes and attacking people based on personal opinion and focus on helping those who need help and contributing to the bigger picture.

Wow, Developer13, I feel like I’m in the principles office. I promise to go sit in a corner and think about what I have done. And no Xbox until after supper.

Thanks for the lecture D13. I’m sure I echo the thoughts of many forum users about this and at least I have the balls to say what I think up front.

We can’t make from 1 person a generality. Like in real life, there will always be people that you’ll hate and some you’ll like. I think also that a forum or a web community is more active and interesting periodically. I mean, there are some periods that people are busy, or lazy (like this fall season when I am under a big rush, making me die slowly…) and seems that open source projects and web communities get more active in November / December and March / April / June

I’m a live and let live kind of guy. If i don’t like some people i just ignore them but i give everyone a few chances before i make my judgement.
People who don’t get along with each other in offices can maintain a strictly work relationship can’t it be the same on a forum like this one too? We go to work to earn money, we joined the CI forum because of CI. This is not a matchmaker forum, is it?

Too Pixel do you have a pie chart of this behaviour 😉

No I don’t, I don’t have some stats about that, it was just a personal feeling and a phenomen I can see each year from the time I am in the web business.

Very wisely said, dear sir. Personally, I try to live by the same principle!

Ok ok ok… am I just taking this all too seriously?
Apparently I’m the only person that cares about the choice of words and attitude found in the forums… is that the case?

I think you mistook me and xwero, or at least me when I agreed with xwero: I too care about attitude and words and I think you did good telling us what’s bothering you, I would’ve too probably (if I didn’t think wired was joking).
The thing is, I saw xwero’s comment more like a reprimand to wired: if you can’t stand someone, just leave the person be. I saw that as an advice, not specifically to wired but to anyone who’s got quarrel with another: just ignore it. Keep things cool and professional, because in the end, sniping/flaming only tears down the (high) quality of these boards.

It was more an observation than a remark about attitude. If people want to call each other names on a public forum they only hurt themselves because a client or a boss can read those posts too.
I agree that it has no value but does the forum quality really goes down the drain because of it? Both Randy and Wiredesignz help others with their posts/code so should you ban, if possible, them because they can’t stand each other?
About language : would you rather have have a post with swearing in it that helps you or a an eloquent essay that doesn’t help you?
Gray is the most beautiful color because it has so many shades.

there’s only one way to settle this - pistols at dawn.
I don’t think the forum is dying, it’s just going through another of those “99% of posts have got bugger all to do with CI” phases.

The funny thing is Casburn (casse-burne) is an insult in french. A “casse-burne” is someone who is really (really) boring 😛
(I don’t know Randy Casburn and I have nothing against him)
