Who here has their own name for their portfolio website? I just bought a .com with my full name in it. Going to build it up for my portfolio so whenever someone asks to see it, I’ll just paste the url in the post/email or whatever.

I’ve got my old nickname as my portfolio (bramme.net) because I think my full name is too difficult to promote as an international developper: bramvandersype.net/com

Looking forward to see your portfolio!

I registered a domain name myphotoalbum.it for that purpose but then I realized that for the people (even for the ones that are not very used to the web) the most mnemonic domain name was stefanogiordano.it (CI powered of course!) ...so I switched to that name (but I still have the old one with a redirect) because it is the first thing that comes to people’s mind 😊

Let us know about the progresses!

    cheers

Ha! My portfolio usually consists of an email with a couple of links and contacts. Serves me well enough. I had no luck at all finding any .com version of Colin Williams so after a good month of off-and-on brainstorming, I ended up with williamsconcepts.com (no forward facing site yet, but you can peek behind the scenes at http://www.williamsconcepts.com/blog)

Keeping it short, meaningful, and sticking to .com are the three things I think one must do.

Why .com? What’s wrong with .net?

Colin, there is an error on your contact page

Fatal error: Cannot instantiate non-existent class: ci_exceptions in /home/8987/domains/williamsconcepts.com/html/_wc_sys/codeigniter/Common.php on line 129

Ditto. I use a .net and I’ve never had any issues.

even though .net in recent years is becoming more mainstream i guess its because its the first ending that someone thinks of and its easy. i have always liked .com more than .net but .net is growing on me 😊

Someone told me it would be un-professional to use an open source template for a portfolio. What do you think? My portfolio/work is only programming, I can’t design.

Then I’d do some cool ajax stuff with it or so… I don’t think it’s unprofessional, but maybe try and take a template that hasn’t been overly used.

Show screens of websites you coded.  Just list what your role in the project was.

I have a free WP template for my portfolio because I don’t have time to make my own layout.
And I just show screens of my work, and also some basic info about the projects. Still no CI projects though 😊
The domain I’m using is http://www.creolab.hr because my company is called Creo, and creo.hr was not availbale.

    That’s a nice layout you have 😊

There are a few designs I like too.
