I’m currently evaluating eTextEditor and I’ve went on the file menu to Bundles >> Edit Bundles >> Manage Bundles and installed the EE bundle.

Now, I can’t figure out how to use it besides manually selecting the tag that I want from the fly out menu (which is time consuming).

I see the shortcut buttons on the right of each option, like for a weblog:entries tag, I see the shortcut it has is “entries” and then a small arrow pointing to the right, but I cannot figure out what needs to happen to turn this into a weblog:entries opening and closing tag quickly?

What are the shortcut keys here?

Type “entries” without the quotes and hit the Tab key.

Tried that but it does just that… tabs over.

Is there something else I need to do like maybe tell eTextEditor that I want to use the EE bundle or something? It’s like it doesn’t even recognize it even though it’s showing in my list under the Bundles Menu.

Down at the bottom of the Window there’s a drop down that lets you choose what programming language you’re working in. It might be set on Plain Text or HTML; it should be set to ExpressionEngine.

Ah! Yep, that’s the problem. Set it to EE and now it’s working. Thanks.

I just installed the EE bundle that was already pre-loaded when I downloaded eTextEditor. Do you know if Chris Ruzin’s bundle or if the bundle found here has more features that the preloaded one has?

I think the eTextEditor bundle is Chris Ruzin’s, as far as I know. The one in the thread you mention is Chris’, with some nice additions. I’m using the tweaked one with TextMate.

Ok, last dumb question, I promise. I’ve downloaded the “tweaked” version of the Chris’ bundle from the link I gave earlier. How do I go about installing that bundle? I don’t see a menu actually inside of eTextEditor do install it.

I don’t remember if eTextEditor works the same way, but in OS X I just have to double click on the tmbundle file and it installs automatically in TextMate. If that doesn’t work, there may be a folder in My Documents or in the E folder under Program Files where you can place the tmbundle file.

I noticed today that e-Texteditor has support for remote projects over FTP!  Textmate is literally crying out for this feature, or at least Textmate users are!  I downloaded the trial of e-Texteditor and this feature works really well.  Tell me I’m not going to have to switch platforms when I need to code EE sites effectively!! I’ve been using Coda, and although its done well, I still pine for Textmate and the EE bundle!

I will look at installing the EE bundle for e-Texteditor soon, and give it a proper tryout.

EDIT: Unfortunately I have tried and failed to use Expandrive and Textmate - just doesn’t work for me.

I was going to recommend Expandrive, but I see in your edit that you’ve already tried that. I switch between Coda and TextMate/Expandrive, myself, the former for its site management/solid ftp for quick changes, the latter for more sustained coding. e-Texteditor has definitely made some excellent additions to the Textmate model—the undo system, for instance, is excellent.
