    I have tried to figure this out, and can’t seem to get an answer. In my template I have the code:

    {exp:comment:form preview="blog/preview" }
                  <fieldset>
                      <legend>Add you comment:</legend>
                      <ol>
                          <li>
                            <label for="comment">Comment:</label><textarea name="comment" cols="60" rows="14">{comment}</textarea>
                         </li>
                         <li>
                             <label for="comment">Shoot me an email when someone responds?</label><input type="checkbox" class="check" name="notify_me" value="yes" {notify_me} />
                         </li>
                         <li>
                             <label>Submit</label><input type="image" class="comment_submit" src="{my_path}images/interface/send-button.gif" name="submit" value="Submit" />
                         </li>
                     </ol>
                 </fieldset>
             {/exp:comment:form}

    But nothing shows up. I’ve check everywhere in the control panel to make sure I didn’t turn comments off. I haven’t “disabled” comments in my expression tag. It just won’t show up. According to the log the expression is recognized “Tag: {exp:comment:form preview="blog/preview" }  Closing Tag Found” What’s the deal?

    How are you getting to the page you have the comment code on? The comment page needs to be a single entry page, and with something in the third segment, either the entry_id or the url_title of the item you want to display comments on.

    That may be the problem. I’m using embeds to remove the second url segment. So instead of…

    mysite.com/blog/entry/url_title

    I have

    mysite.com/blog/url_title

    However, I also tried it using the url_title parameter in the comment_form tag and it still didn’t work.

    If you try mysite.com/blog/entry/url_title, does that work for you?

    If you use the comment form from one of the sample templates does that work?

    Butterfly Theme Comments

    You’d use your own weblog names, etc. But this code does work for comments.

    It still isn’t working. The entry shows up o.k., but the comment entry form is nowhere to be found.

    Do you have a URL we could look at?

    Unfortunately all of the files are local. The url is:
    http://newmediciglobal.com/index.php/blog/article/top_patient_retention_tips_used_by_successful_study_coordinators/

    see the pasted code output by the butterfly code

    What version/build are you running?  Both values can be found in the footer of your control panel.  Can you confirm that you have check in Admin ›  Weblog Administration ›  Weblog Management ›  Edit Weblog .  Under “comment posting preferences” you have it set to “allow comments” right?  You also have “Allow Comments” checked for that entry, right?  You can disable/enable on a per template basis in EDIT -> Options.

    Good trouble shooting greg!! I had made the change in the weblog preferences but had forgot that it can be made on the entry level as well.

    One unrelated question. If I change the default formatting of a custom weblog field (from xhtml to ‘none’) will that delete the content in the database in that field?

    No, on the contrary. It will give you the option to change the formatting on all fields, not just new ones from now on. The content of these fields is not changed at all (XHTML markup like and such is added dynamically to your field).
