Is there a way to estimate how much a site could be earning through adverts / month? Excluding sponsors, affiliate programs, etc. Just adverts. Perhaps a tool online that can indicate this?

Some websites have sitemeter. Looking at the traffic numbers, is it possible to guess a revenue range?

What are your methods in determining these metrics?

That’s easy. Set up some advertising on your own site. See how much you get in the next 12 months, average it out per visitor divided by the number of pages on your site then Check Alexa.com to see how what the sites rank is and divide that number by the your average and that’s how much more $ every other site is getting more then yours.

Another tip - don’t ask ladies how old they are either.

Sorry I was being a bit grumpy there! Ad revenues are one of those few topics that, in my experience, webmasters hate to talk about so you might not get many replies to this sort of question. There are a lot of different ad models so a lot will depend on which one you choose. Some actually have tools that show you that positioning is key to how much you could generate. I would start by having a look at Text Ad Links - http://www.text-link-ads.com/  and if you earn anything more than a bit of beer money then let me know how!

Well the thing is. Im thinking of putting $100-200 USD / month on celebrity photos to get more traffic. The intention is to achieve enough traffic and ad revenue to pay off this cost with some gain.

According to sitemeter, I know this website thats getting an average of 900,000 visitors a month.

I definitely think these are not unique visitors. But 900K does sound really big to get enough revenue. And thinking at least $500 / month

900 big ones should be enough visits to get you a decent revenue stream. I would set yourself some goals and milestones so you know when to up your budget or pull out if its not working.

There’s no reliable method for working out how much revenue you’d get. You have a good amount of traffic but there are so many factors that could sway the deal either way…

Is your site “sticky”, ie does the average visitor look at several pages or just one?
How well do the ads match your visitors interests?
Are ads placed in highly visible or relevant positions?
...and so on…

Probably the best measure is to run some test ad spots, offer some free advertising to *a limited few* for a while so you can run tests on page views, click throughs and so on. You could also supplement ads spot with your own affiliate links or whatever. This data will be useful in sussing out your rates.

I’m sure with 900k a month you won’t find a shortage of advertisers 😊

Ok considering sites like hollywoodtuna.com, celebslam.celebuzz.com, collegehumor.com, bastardly.com (which are mostly celeb websites)

Attuworld dot com is averaging around 900K. How much do think a website like this is earning a month?
