    I’m missing something here.

I created a couple of different weblogs, created custom field groups for each, added some posts.  I then decided that a field group I was using for one of the weblogs would work better for a different weblog than the one assign.  So I simply changed the custom field group assigned.

When I go to edit a post to the weblog which had a custom field group assigned that was is different than what the one that was assigned when the post was created, nothing shows up in the custom fields.  Why?

When you go to edit your weblog, EE looks in the database for content that is stored within the custom fields you have associated with it. Because you changed the custom field group AFTER your post was created, the entry you are trying to edit has no content associated with the current custom field group. The content for your entry is still associated with the OLD custom fields, but since that group is no longer linked to your weblog, EE doesn’t know to look there,so you’re not seeing any content.

    Thanks for the reply aircrash.

The content for your entry is still associated with the OLD custom fields, but since that group is no longer linked to your weblog, EE doesn’t know to look there,so you’re not seeing any content.

You explain the what; but, I still don’t get the why.  It would appear that the content belongs to the field group then, and not the post.  I just don’t see the logic.

The only fix I can see to changing your mind on which custom field group you wish to use after creating a entries is to delete those “offending” entries and then recreating them once the new field group is assigned.
