I totally see where you are all coming from on this one. To me from everything I have seen so far it looks more like a complete code change to CI and back-end prettiness than extra features.

Of course the swap over to CI obviously can’t be easy, I wouldn’t even know where to start so I think we have to give massive massive kudos to the Dev team on that one yet on the other hand I do hope that there are some more integral changes such as the member groups and other such long awaited changes. That being said I’m sure that with the whole of ExpressionEngine being on CI and all the fantastic developers I’ve been hearing about (although not had the decency to pop in on their forums and say hi 😉 possibly because I am a little scared at their awesomeness!!) these kinds of extra facilities and add-ons shouldn’t hopefully be too hard to implement.

I’ve even made a few plugins and extensions myself (although still to tackle modules - that just goes all over my head although I do have great ideas for some) and from what I have been reading all of that side of things should be a lot easier so hopefully I will be able to make even more bigger and better things myself without even having the need for external developers - not needed one yet so far. Hopefully I can get my head around it anyway 😉

So whilst I am totally with the fact that I am totally 100% happy with 1.6.x at the moment as it does everything I need and a whole heap more it will be nice if the new 2.0 brings a few of the long awaited features that people have needed or at least a much easier way of getting at them.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

I keep my head clean and just wait. But one thing came to my mind. With new CP you can boost up the speed of doing stuff i think. And thats kinda good. Finding stuff faster, editing etc. Still high hopes lies under some features but i take what i “get”. Until 2.0 comes - i just read some other things and try to come better in many other things also =)

I totally agree with you there tuittu.

There are loads of things that I could be better at and not hanging on to when 2.0 is coming out will help me with getting a few of those done and dusted.

I wait patiently too. I know that whatever comes out will be fantastic though if it’s anything like the existing software so I’m excited already 😉

    Best wishes,

I’ve been asking myself the same question, but really I think EE 2.0 will sport more features and things than we known and can see right now. Whether you right nowlike the idea of 2.0 or not wont matter in the long run, I believe, because it will most likely satisfy you in all the ways 1.6 satisfies you. I might sound over-enthusiastic but I guess I just trust the developers they will come up with something really useful and nice. And for a server hoster like me, the switch to CI will mean better performance server-wise 😊 !

personally i’m most excited about the CI platform—i’ll be able to build custom functionality right into the site without extra setup (and file structure…space…) for a framework, as well as the new control panel. For handing a site off to a client who is scared of breaking the internet, it allows me to customize their view into a much friendlier interface, add in help docs on the bottom and save me the headaches of having to train and retrain people.

I can’t wait for the release. But i’ve dulled down my excitement for fear of disappointment on a long delay. Duke Nukem Forever? Aw shucks.

... long delay. Duke Nukem Forever? Aw shucks.

You know, that comparison seems a trifle harsh…

LOL you’re definitely right. Maybe Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince? 😊
